Title: Building/Restoring... Do you use retro controls?
Post by: WhiteComet on March 22, 2008, 04:36:58 pm
Hi

Ok another project ive fallen into.... when restoring an old arcade machine do you restore the old buttons and springs etc.... or do you use brand new parts (i.e. Happ, Sanwa etc.) I ask because I have opened up a old playchoice10 and the buttons are like something ive never seen.... so do I just clean them all up and keep it as retro as possible or buy all new parts  :P

what do you guys that restore cabinets do??

If the old buttons can be restored back to functional order, then by all means keep em.  Especially if they are proprietary buttons or hard to find like Nintendo parts can sometime be.

Restoring machines to exact factory settings, including things like artwork, coin mechs, and monitors are the dream for a lot of people, and generally the sentiment is that if you can still use the original parts to do so it is preferable.
