I'm not sure but I think this happened when I upgraded my video card in my test pc to an ATI Radeon HD2400. The fonts in Mame are all messed up:

I have changed the resolution to a lower one, but it still does the same. Also, I changed around a few ui.bdf font files, same thing, just a little different looking. This happens in a couple of versions of Mame, tried 120 - 123. I'm running XP with SP2. It happens with the driver that came with the card, and still happens after I downloaded the latest version from ATI. Once in the game, everything is fine, it's just the text that is screwy. Anyone have any suggestions?

I read something similar to this on MameWorld recently and Aaron Giles replied that "Some cards just do not render the font correctly".

Not sure if it's the same thing :dunno

I have that same card, running MAME 110 under Win XP home sp2, and my fonts are fine ???

I figured it out: I changed the video mode from Direct3D to GDI, and now it works perfectly. I first tried DirectDraw, and that worked better, but the font was blurry, however readable. Changed to GDI, and the fonts are nice and crisp.
Game on!
