Title: Screen Cut Off???? Need advice on possible punchout purchase
Post by: parpunk on March 19, 2008, 02:51:12 pm
Hey guys I have a deal in the works for a vintage dual monitor punchout arcade.  He's selling it for 250 bucks, and he claimed the only thing wrong with it is on both monitors he claims there is a little bit of the screen cut off. Anyone know if this can be fixed or if it could possibly just be an adjustment or a part of the warming up process? Also any worse case scenarios ?? Any info would be great, thanks!

Cut off how ?  That’s pretty vague.

Have you seen this machine ?  I would ask for some pictures, because it could be something as simple as a pot adjustment.  Or a severe as an IC / cap replacement on the monitor chassis.

hey thanks for the reply, as for cut off i mean like at the top of the screen there is like a black bar at the top. kinda making the image look like a wide screen tv. Again this is all from what i heard about the problem, i have not seen the unit in person, but was just trying to get a heads up on the problem and to see what exactly kinda of problem it is. Also whats the best and worst case scenario. Does anyone know if monitors do this before they die?? or if this could be something just like an adjustment in the back. Also with if it was a  IC / cap replacement on the monitor chassis, how much does that normally run. Anyways any infow ould be great. thanks everyone

Sounds like classic Nintendo Sanyo monitor "foldover". Since those monitors are 25 years old and likely have not had a capkit, that's the first thing to do and it will cure the foldover.

ok great!! thanks so much for all the advice. so you say a capkit??? Any ideas on where to look for some more info on installing a capkit, or i might probably try and hire someone to do it. i know messing with monitors is very dangerous. Again thanks so much for all the help everyone, also if anyone else has any input that would be great.

make and model > Vintage Nintendo Punch out Arcade 1984 I believe.

after 24 yrs , very likely to have some dry 'lytics  !    "shotgun" it with a cap kit,  or look for faulty caps in the vertical output .
