Title: For the love of vishnu, RESIZE YOUR PICS, PLEASE.
Post by: Sasquatch! on May 23, 2003, 11:21:55 pm
<Rant>
It drives me bonkers when people post pictures that are 10 million px wide, which makes the entire thread unreadable because I have to keep shuttling the scroll bar back-and-forth.  And no, I'm not on a 640x480 13" monitor either.

I thought that it was proper etiquette to post pictures no large than 800px wide MAXIMUM (and preferably 600px wide), and link to anything bigger.  Am I alone here?

And thanks for specking out!

Another thing is the extra long http links that people don't edit or encapsulate, like this:  click here  (http://urebelscum.speedhost.com/)

That link was typed:
Code: [Select]

Quote
But who on earth is vishnu?

"One of the principal Hindu deities, worshiped as the protector and preserver of worlds. Vishnu is often conceived as a member of the triad including also Brahma and Shiva." (from dictionary.com)

I've heard it often used so people who say "don't use the lord's name in vain" don't go off.

Sorry, I am guilty of this. I didn't know how to do that but now I do. It is good to learn something new every day. :)

And while we are ranting, could we set a max useage of smilies? Like maybe 5 per post? It gets hard to read when the whole post is yellow.

I'm bumping this thread because I've seen quite a few people posting humongous 1280x960 pictures which screws the whole damn thread up.  Please people, I'm begging you, don't do this.

A *very* good idea.

If you're attaching pictures, you have to make sure to resize them on your end.  If you're linking the picture from webspace, and it's still large, you can still resize.

Code: [Select]

YABBSE.  If it was HTML it would have been surrounded with < and > not [ and ]

how do we resize it after we've posted it?

I don't think you can.  If you could somehow delete it as an 'attachment' (but not delete it off the server) but then use the old address, that would work.  But I think when you delete the attachment, it's gone off the server too.  Good question for Saint or PlanetJay.

Yes, I knew you could do that.  I meant...ah, never mind what I meant.

Is there any way to change the default color for hyperlinks.  The dark blue and black blend together so sometimes I don't even see the short links like the first one above.

I was wondering the same.  URLs get lost so easily on the page, since the colors are so close.  And I thought URLs were supposed to be underlined?  I know I've got IE set up to underline all URLs, and yet...
