Thanks for reading, Any pacman owners that can tell me how to hook a pacman pcb to a jamma cab? or does pacman need its own adapter. Thanks for the help.
-
Yes, you need a Pac to Jamma adapter.
-
I got my adaptor from a guy on e-bay. I think his name is Yaton.
-
thanks guys, i went over my friends place today and saw the cab where the pcb used to be connected, he explain to me that pacman has itso own power source, its not like a jamma cab that outpust 5v , instead pacmans needs 7volt, ill guess ill just get the powersource and harness from him, thanks for thelp.

Actually... pacman does take unregulated voltage and regulates it to 5v... but if you are using a pac to jamma adapter... its irrelevant... since it connects the regulated 5v from the jamma connector to the appropriate pin on pacman board...eliminating the need for the unregulated 7v as you stated.
pcb sells the pac to jamma adapters and they work... these things have been on the market for a long time and there is no issue here.

I was going to mention that, but I couldn't find any information except at the TwoBits site for their jamma adapter. According to them, you need to push the regulated +5v voltage as high as it will allow because Pac requires the higher amperage. Except I don't remember reading about that at any other site (that I, of course, can't find anymore). What's the skinny on that? Does Pac really need the higher amperage or is it fine with stock +5v on the jamma?

I've done 3 and never had an issue with the plain-ol-vanilla 15A switcher. I think the problem folks get into is if the fingerboard is not up to par and there is problems getting a good connection... one of the twobits adapters has wires that you solder and I think Bob Roberts also writes the conversion this way...its the guaranteed method if you have a questionable edge connector.

I think its better to have pacman in its original cab, Now , wich cab would you guys think looks nicer, tabletop or the original bigger cab?, my wife says tabletop looks nice, but i like the original better.

The cocktails (or tabletops as you called them) age a hell of a lot better than the uprights do. Pac and Ms. Pac cabinets aged terribly and the long location life most of them saw means that the average one is barely basement quality, much less living room quality.
In fact, a "nice" Pac is usually in such poor condition that it would simply be parted out if it was a lesser title.

This is an old wives tale. A standard switcher set at 5V will work fine if you have an adapter with enough trace on the +5VDC. They key is to use either large wire for the +5 and Ground, or use large traces for them. A small wimpy trace or thin 22gauge wire will not allow the board to draw enough amperage. Bob Roberts has a great tutorial on building your own adapter, and has great comments on building up the power supply lines on the adpater.

Twobits also tells you to hack up the board and jumper the diodes, that is not needed either.

Ya, that's the one I got. I also got the Mr. Do! one from him as well. Pacman works great. Didn't try the other one out yet.
