Title: PSP for plane ride
Post by: Kangum on March 15, 2008, 11:18:17 pm
I just picked up a psp for a 5 hour plane ride.

I was hoping for game suggestions and possibly a little help with how to get one of my own videos on it to watch while on the plane. I have a usb cable and a sd card but I dont know anything at all about video encoding.

I use Xilisoft DVD Ripper to convert my movies.  Simple to use however, it's not free.  I'm sure someone can suggest a free option.

Also, you may want to get an extra battery if you plan on using the PSP for the entire 5 hours.  I recently invested in an extended battery and the bubble battery cover for my slim.

I use 3gp converter, which is free and works great.

For games, I just got the new God of war one, which is fun but very short.  Castlevania Dracula x chronicles is a really good value if you like the castlevania series.

Yeah, I've never played a PSP, but the press are all peeing their pants about God of War right now.  Get that.  DVDFab Platinum, by the way, is the greatest program on earth for ripping movies.  Just select what you want to rip it for (PSP and iPod are both available selections) and go.

xvid4psp converts movies to 480x272(psp's max resolution) and its free.  www.winnydows.com

god of war should keep you busy for 7-8 hours easy. you can also try ratchet and clank size matters, both syphon filter games, burnout, etc

I've always used PSP Video 9 for converting.  I have an old fat PSP that easily gets 6 hours of gaming or video on a standard battery.  If you have a slim you might want to buy another battery.

I haven't played God of War but a couple of games I would recommend to pass the time are Hot Shots Golf and Virtua Tennis.  They're not "great" games but they're simple, fun, and easy to pick up and play.  When I had a 23-hour trip to Singapore I played these two in between longer sessions of GTA and movies.

Based on all your suggestions i grabbed god of war and castlevania.  god of war is really awesome.

I had not realized there were so many programs that ripped directly to psp. thats great news. now to figure out a good movie. NOT snakes on a plane ehe.

I ripped about twenty movies to have on hand.  Star Wars trilogy, Indiana Jones trilogy, The Road Warrior, Heavy Metal...

If someone in your area mods psp's, I would also recommend that.  It's nice to be able to play Nintendo, SNES, Genesis and the like.

Ditto on every word of this post except I've never been to Singapore. Also, I still play alot of Lumines which fits into that Golf/Tennis category pretty well.
