Well, you could always slap a PS3 in your cab, hack the controller and play the game on your LCD, wide-screen monitor  ;D

Obviously.
But where's the fun in that? Can't take jabs at MAME around here?

what arcades? :(

So...how many decades before it plays full speed in MAME?

at least 50 years... it'll probably be supported by Mame in a year or two.. but will require a 75.8 GHZ Octo Core CPU :)

I dont have kids so I can't step foot into one of those places.. either do to embarrassment or due to folks thinking I'm after their kids like Wacko Jacko :)

What arcade? I don't know where you live, but in central U.S. our arcade is live an kicking. Hopefully we get one of those SF4s, then I can buy it and take it home (I won't wait for M.A.M.E).

Buy it huh? According to this site: http://www.tops-game.jp/shinsaku.htm it will cost 2,394,000 yen. That's $23,662.04 USD  :o

I don't understand why these machines have to be so expensive. In the 80's the machines where designed and built specifically for one game so I can understand the fixed costs must be enormous. Nowadays machines like Tekken 6 cost tens of thousands for basically a couple of plasmascreens and a few PS3's. If the Streetfighter 4 arcade would have special hardware the PS3 and Xbox versions would probably differ too much. Looking at the trend (consoles games rival if not surpass arcade games) I don't think that will be the case. So why the high pricetag?  ???

It looks like of the $23,662.04 USD,  $3,662.04 is for the hardware and $20,000 is for the IP.

That's a hell of a lot of quarters before you make your money back.

honestly I think thats the down fall of the arcade... used to be the arcade version of the game far surpassed the home version.. The home systems were not capable of reproducing the arcade experience.. so people played in the arcades.. but now because the consoles are so powerful people have no reason to play in the arcades.. so they just wait for the home version that they know will be on par... think about it... even when SF2 or MK was on the console you still played in the arcade to the get the authentic experience.. but now you expect the console port within a few months and you know its going to be 99% the same as the arcade..  so why bother?  thus is the death of the arcade...

How very true. And at home you can play with your buddies, even if they're on the other side of the world and at times that you decide yourself. Still, I have to say that I go into the large arcade I found here in Singapore now and then, just for the atmosphere. I miss the old style games though. The only way to play classics like SF2 is using a candycab. None of the classic dedicated machines have survived here  :'(

I really morn the death of the arcades.. it was such a social experience..  but now you don t have that..  I think its because the game developers want games that can be easily ported to consoles to make more money.. but they could easily make games that are arcade exclusive but that would be a gamble these days... think about games like Silent Scope.. you cant play those at home easily.. so they would be exclusive to arcades but they make stuff that is easily ported so that they can recoup profit incase it fails in the arcade.. Its just like movies.. nobody is willing to take chances at being original... Just play it safe and copy whatever was the previous hit...

It's the price of dedicated machines that cause the death of arcades as well. Here in the Far East there are lots of arcades with rows of candycabs. Those machines are cheap (around $300) and the Jamma boards can be swapped. There are expensive games as well but my guess is that they only act as an attractor. In Singapore alone there are at least 10 of these places and they're always packed with schoolkids.

The issue is that the games these days are not the games I associate with arcades. That's just me getting old I guess.

A lot of the high price is also due to the fact that the US Dollar is worth absolutely nothing.

Yeah, and a dollar is worth nothing pretty much all over the world.  Try paying for anything with a dollar outside of the US and watch yourself get laughed at.

Our best option is that they make a version for PC's. Thats the only way I'll ever get to play it. I don't think any of the arcades in my area will blow $23,000 on a cabinet. I also don't want to wait 50 years for a pc to be able to play it on MAME. So I'm praying for a PC port. :notworthy:

You are exaggerating obviously. The U.S. dollar is worth a similar amount as the Canadian and Australian dollar. Against the British pound, it has been worth in the neighborhood of .5 to .6 pounds for years and years. Currently the USD is worth about 100 Japanese Yen. This is fairly low, but nothing new. In 2000 it was worth about 105 Yen. In 1995 it was worth about 89 Yen.

Really? This is news to me (I thought you could always convert it to that country's currency). I guess it makes sense, since we are in so much debt. Any how, you can always make a sf4 replica cab. Of course you need a PS3 and the works (like someone stated before). Hopefully there will be enough hype, that these arcades will spend $23k on the cabinet.

That's only if they plan to buy it. No one buys them, they instead rent or lease them for a lenght of time.

The U.S. Dollar has been plummeting in value versus other major markets in the world.  The Euro is worth a great deal more in comparison to the dollar, and right now the dollar has very little buying power outside of the US.  The poster who said "The US Dollar is worth a dollar" was trying to be a wise-ass and I'm just stating that the buying power of the dollar across the world is not nearly as good as it used to be.  I work in a global industry and we have a difficult time due to this devaluation of the dollar in comparison to the rest of the world.  For the longest time (nearly all of my life), the US dollar was always worth more than the Canadian dollar. Recently, the Canadian dollar has actually become more valuable than the US Dollar.  The old joke used to be that you could go to Canada to buy whatever you wanted because it was markedly cheaper.  Nowadays, that isn't true.

so away from the weakening dollar and getting back on topic...

i'd expect to see sfiv cracked for home use within a year or two. the taito type x2 is just a pc running winxp sp2 and the games are just hdds with a special usb security key. so while it may not be on mame for a few decades :P...i wouldn't think one would have to wait too long. (example: the iidx series. with a dump of the hdd and a special executable all of the releases from 9th style onwards are playable on home pcs.)

Meh, just another fighter...

Why can't they make something original? No wonder arcades are slipping away...
