My wife and I escaped from the children to go ride.
Before the first run, after I got off of the lift I had to avoid some people standing in the way and my free foot caught some ice and twisted. I felt a large pop and seering pain.
Crappy. :(
I told my wife to do a run while I rested it to see if I'd be OK. It wasn't. But I managed to creep my way painfully to the bottom of the hill. My day was done before it began.
I went to ski patrol to get some ice and Advil then went home. It did not look like my ankle was broken at that time.
The story is not over! Worst part is still coming.
I told my wife that I'd be fine and to go back out. (no use wasting two lift tickets, although after some sweet talking I did get a credit for mine)
Two hours later I'm icing my foot and watching TV and my Wife literally hops in on one foot and says I need to take her to the ER. Her foot is in a temporary splint.
We get to urgent care and she definitely broke it, she gets drugs and a cast. Fun stuff. :dizzy:
Only good news is that later when I thought my foot was broken it turned out to be sprained. So no cast for me and I can walk and drive (right foot) not to mention take a shower.
All this the day before our Anniversary.

(That is one hell of a day.)

That sucks man.
You now have the opportunity to make her anniversary extra special with home comforts and pampering.
I've done a something very similar involving ATCs, and when it all goes wrong its not fun.
Well, have a happy anniversary anyway, maybe next year you could try snorkling in Cancun. ;)

I always tell people they should take lessons so they don't get hurt. ;)
-
Lessons on what? Not standing at the chair offload spot where people can get hurt? That happens way more often than it should and it is never the idiots in the way that get hurt. It's the person jumping off the chair like knave.

Dude, that sucks. I've only been skiing once, and it was a blast, but there were a bunch of dumbasses to contend with.
About your sprain, did you get it examined?
My wife was a figure skater when she was a teenager. She suffered a 3rd degree sprain during off-ice practice. In her case, a 3rd degree sprain was actually worse than a break. She even had to go thru physical therapy over it. It still isn't right 8 years later.

Happy Anniversary, Break a Leg!

Yeah, I went in a few days after it happened since my ankle started turning colors. I even thought for a while that it was broken too. But the x-rays said otherwise. My dr. said that I tore some of the smaller tendons not one of the big three and that it will heal faster than a break but still be painful. I's a lovely shade of purple now in places. :dunno
As for the idiots standing in front of the lift drop. I'm trying hard not to focus too much on blame. I don't want to be angry, I just want to get better. Thanks Chad for the support though...It does suck that they chose that spot to stand. Whats more they totally ignored me laying on the ground in front of them wincing in pain. I thought it was a bit rude, if you ask me. But again I'm not angry. SHT happens. (ok so I'm a teensy bit bitter.)
On the bright side I've found that I love telling the story. (and probably will for years to come.)

Happened to me once too - though I wasn't injured, just got a nice fall out of it because a woman decided to adjust her boot right at the drop spot rather than move a few feet and then do it.
