Hmm.. just got my ultrastick..and tried to setup the computer with mala, and i'm having a problem.
The joystick works with MAME but mala is not using it for games at all.
Using Mala: 1.04
Using Plugin: 1.1
Mala finds the Plugin in the option screen.
Ran a test where i required a third stick.. and mala captured the error (so that tells me it's executing the plugin file?)
Path variable is set.. i can run "ultramap" from the command line
File structure is as follows:
C:\Emulators\mala
\maps
\plugins\ultrastiikMapPlugin.mplugin
Joystick option is enabled in mala, and mala shows action in the Joystick "Check" tab.
umapper.log file created and document that map files are found (no errors).
Windows sees it in the Game controller area.
When playing game.. nothing happens with the joystick. So i'm not sure where else to trouble shot.
I haven't configured any map files or config files (am i supposed to?) .
So i'm stuck...sadness....

This may seem like a silly questions, but if the joysticks work in MAME (outisde of Mala) but not when navigated through Mala, are you sure you're pointing to the same MAME? Because it sounds like a mame.ini problem (you have to enable joysticks by changing "joystick" from 0 to 1, it can be found under INPUT OPTIONS or something).
If you go into the options menu within a MAME game (by pressing Tab), have you tried remapping the controls? If you have joysticks enabled, they usually default to Joystick_1, but check anyway.

That was it.. Thanks DaveMMR!!! ... happiness!
