Title: MP3 to WAV Conversion question
Post by: Musicman on March 06, 2008, 12:24:33 pm
Is there any way or program to decompress MP3  to WAV keeping in WAV file the ID TAGS????
 :timebomb:

Thanks in advance.

What I'm really trying to convert is my MP3 CBR to MP3 VBR but it seems that none of the programs works
properly doing this.

I do not recommend to convert cbr to vbr, because you just un crompress and then compress the file AGAIN. Like JPG, you might get a worse quality on your files.

Indstead you should re-rip your files if you can.

No, WAV can not hold any tags at all. Instead you should try FLAC instead which can hold tags and is a LOSELESS compression, unlike MP3.

foobar2000 will convert mp3 to mp3 and retag the new file with info from the source file.

If you are recoding from a high rate to a low one for a portable player this will be fine, but if you are dropping it from something bad like 160 to a vbr around 130 wanting to make your library smaller then you will not save a lot and will have crap sound

Thanks for the advices Space & Richms.

I already tested foobar2000 and at least the few files that used work
fine for what I need (not losing current quality, keeping ID Tags and
get reasonable file size). Thanks Richms.

Great Forum.

Since Mp3 is a lossy format, you want get the losted music data back again, so you would just recompress it twice and then hence the worser quality.

Normally this is not a problem for mobile device or something like that. But dont do that for HIFI speackers or like that.
