That one sucked more than the real ending. :P

My thoughts were that the alternate ending is "truer" to the book, in as much as this movie could at all be considered anywhere near the spirit of the book.
That said, both endings sucked, but I liked this one a bit better.
-
That movie started out to be pretty good and then (halfway or so?) it started sucking so bad.
Not sure if this ending really works better.
-
I find it embarrassing that a movie could have such a huge budget and then have such horrible CGI. Not to mention that CGI monsters shouldn't even have been in the movie.
-
Wouldn't waste my money on it
-
They looked less like monsters and more human in the alternative ending, which is why I liked it.
Doesn't he end up a prisoner of the infected in the book?
They end up killing him because everyone else would be frightened by him because he is so different.
-
Not found now...DAMNIT! I wanted to see it. I liked the movie overall (compared to some of the other absolute garbage coming from Hollywood as of late).
-
Looks like Warners is going after it.
Here's another link, slightly crappier video quality.

Found it on torrent...
...not bad...though i think I like the original ending better.
-
*disclaimer: I haven't read the book.
I definitely liked this ending much better. Possibly because it provoked a little more thought that standard hollywood endings usually do, or because it answers a few questions the theatrical ending didn't. Either way....... cool.

Yeah, I definitely like how they gave the monsters some modicum of choice in that ending but it still felt too cheesy to me, so I still liked the original ending better, it stikes me as more original.
I'm sure you've noticed that most American movies end with on an "Everythings OK" note. Nothing wrong with that, but we've done it so much that it feels hackneyed.

The Mist definitely doesn't have an "everything's ok" ending - even more so than the book. I couldn't watch the movie because of the ending myself - it was too much for us. That sucks too because I LOVE the book.
-
In the book do the bad guys turn into cartoons like they did in the movie?
-
I can't help but think the alternate ending is actually the "real" ending in territories outside the US. You know, give the Americans the big explosions, while others get the deep thought ending. ;D
-
Sorry to disappoint, but here in Australia we also got the explodey-feel-good-everythings-OK ending.
-
Um . . . I hate to rain on the anti-Hollywood parade, but the ending we got was the protagonist dying tragically just after discovering the cure, and the alternate ending is the sappy, monster-just-wanted-his-wife-back, everything works out ok in the end, ending.

I guess it flew over your head that our protagonist came to the realisation HE was the monster, going out every day abducting "people" for his experiments. It's all in how you look at it.
;-)

...and then heroically sacrificed himself so that the cure could live to find the survivors.
-
Well . . whatever. I think you're crazy if you think that the alternate ending is less Hollywood-formulaic than what we got. I don't really care, since the movie was pretty forgettable with either ending. But keep in mind, the cartoon monster stopped wildly slamming his head into the wall so he could draw a butterfly on it. If that ain't Hollywood sap, I don't know what is.

You sure it wasn't a heart? LOVE SAVES ALL! I learned this from the Fifth Element. ;D (yeah that angle is sappy, i just like the other angle I was talking about a little better than yet another big boom). ;-)
