Title: Finding a good High res monitor

Right now I have a marvel vs. capcom 2 on a low res monitor in a conversion cabinet.  Looks alright but noticed it can run high res at 31khz.  Don't know much about monitors and wanted to know if its worth the upgrade and if so what kind, how much to spend and where I can get one.
