Title: Internet links: revisted
Post by: shardian on March 05, 2008, 11:38:27 am
I know this has been discussed before, but I'm bringing it up again. Is there any new tools for posting links?  The stupidly long links are a pain here, and the method for posting a link with wording is not exactly straight forward.
Over at KLOV, when you click the link button a window prompt pops up that has you enter the link and then the text you want displayed. Why can't something like that be implemented here?

FWIW, I don't have a problem with the way it works now.  I type in my BBcode by hand, though.  I don't use the buttons very often.

Well of course WE don't have a problem with it - we are used to it. There is no way of knowing how to do it in the current setup unless someone like us tells the poster how to fix it. Long links royally screw up the width of the thread.

I really think this should have some priority to make more user friendly.

I see your point.  When a newbie presses the button it does just dump the url tag in there with no obvious way to use the code.  Not exactly friendly.

There's a new version of SMF coming out "any day now" from what I understand that I'm hoping to jump on when it comes out. I haven't seen any current mods to make the URL linking friendlier... :(

Hmmm...the last mod to this forum caused this forum to be unaccessible from work. As soon as YouTube imbeds were added, all of sudden the Novell BorderManager on our servers began blocking BYOAC on its own. Error 403 FORBIDDEN.
