So long, Trinitron -- it's been a mighty impressive run. (http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/03/sony-bids-adieu-to-trinitron-crt-sets/)

Man, I remember buying my first Trinitron computer monitor.  19" flat screen.  The thing was huge, lol.  I almost feel sad.  A great tech for a long time.

Sony products at one time were absolutely great. However, I've heard from many techs over the last ten years complaining about how Sony has gone to hell. No quality, lousy design, cheap parts, lousy tech support. Today Sony is nothing more than a run-of-the-mill throwaway product.

They still seem to be producing pretty good TVs with their Bravia line.  And, of course, for once in Sony's long history it has a winning media format with BluRay.  That bodes well for them.

Just as american manufacturers were overtaken in the 80's by the Japanese, the Koreans are starting to play that role now.  LG and Samsung have REALLY raised the bar when it comes to consumer electronics, and Sony, Panasonic, and the rest of the JP players are struggling to keep pace.

Trinitron was a great tech for it's day, but no way it could continue to compete in the flat panel world.

I read that Sony did not want another betamax and paid out (bribed) the studios over $500 mil.

Well HD DVD supporters tried doing the same thing and paid around $150 mil to get Paramount and Dreamworks, so it's all just part of the game.

That is such sad news.

I really loved Sony's Trinitron TVs.

They look great in arcade cabinets too.

Did anyone else get the song "Kodachrome" stuck in their heads when they read this, only with Trinitron instead of Kodachrome?

"Tin-i-tron, give nice bright colors...." okok, I wont sing it...
