Hey now that's a great one... I'll have to look into that.
-
this may be an even betterer option

they claimed
It's the first D2C compatible chip that is upgradable from DVD.
wich is false even the home made one's have this support.
install method looks better then most with only 3 wires to the tuff spot 9 in total soldered to wii pcb
also the sst chip on that one is as cheap as them come same thing was used on the xbox aladdin/xeno's "not better".
the one I had origanaly posted does not require the end user to solder on the wii at all it just plugs on like a cap.

The d2c chips I looked into are not upgradeable from disc. Some are not upgradeable at all - others have JTAG connectors. Which d2c chips are you talking about?

I checked around and the buzz on the clips are that they don't hold well and are too likely to bend a hair-thin pin and short the target chip. It's a shame, too. I'd love to be able to play backups so my kids could change discs but I'm too afraid to try soldering something that small. Not something I wouldn't risk trashing, anyway.

yup I was wrong I was thinking of prior wii drives and not the d2c they dont even have any homemade one for the d2c's yet so I dunno what I was thinking :dunno
what if a little paste for pc's heatsink was applied under the clip and then hot glue the corners down?
-
That may solve the issue but it undermines one of the main purposes - to be able to remove it and have a fully original Wii again.
-
it was just a quik thought but there would have to be some way to get it to stick good.
as long as the end user does not get crazy and glob the hot glue on it then it should be fairly easy and clean to remove it.
the thermal paste for the heatsink may not be needed but it may hold it in place better for the initial placment of the hot glue.
-
Hot glue is a biiiiiiiiiitch to get off of a tight PCB like that if you ever have to do it. I use it for holding down repairs and mods for Pinball PCBs - you really have to watch where you put it.
-
if you leave the hot glue out and have a hot tip you can reheat it as long as it is not globbed I know the strengh and what it can do but it should be safe as long as it is not globbed on there.
-
Not on top of fragile signal traces, you can't.
-
nah 360 controller pcbs have mad trace's and I never pulled any up from hot glue.
also it could be hot glued anywhere toward the chip side so it could be hot glued in many spots thoughout that part and probably never even hit a trace if it is looked over before applied.
-
That looks better than I expected.

-
I was thinking just a tad on each of the corners of the black in the pic or if there was anything that could get damaged in those area's and if there were it could be hot glued down toward the solder in chip side.
to bad the big center hole did not go through the pcb completely for a possible permmanent mounting solution from the top after it is on there.
-
Thus far the Wii-Clip is getting good early reviews and at first doesn't appear to need glue at all.
If this trend continues I will order one.
-
yeah I dunno if they would hold on good or not like you had mentioned prior but I figured a little hot glue could fix that if it were even a problem.
or maybe wedge something between it and the case top to hold it in their also :dunno
-
Looks like more are arriving and are getting really good reviews.
-
know if they are shipping any out to end users yet?
-
The reviews I'm talking about are end users, supposedly.
-
So you buy this and a mod chip?
=J
-
Not yet but it is likely I will if I don't see any credible negative reviews in the next few days. Right now there aren't many resellers and half of their websites aren't in English.
-

sometime's they only release a certian amount to testers at first so they can review the products before launch.
I have not been paying attention to it lately that is why I was asking if they were shipping out to end users yet and if that was the review's you were seeing or not.

Figured I'd report back. The Wii Clip works very, very well if installed properly. We've been running it for months now without any problems.
-
OK, everybody out of the pool. Partys over.
-
Well, that was all very anti-climatic. :'(
-
Cool I still have not tried one out yet but good to hear there is a savior :applaud:
-
Well, that was all very anti-climatic. :'(
Seriously. That's all those guys could come up with? They had months.
-
Personally, I think Chad went back in time to begin all creation and he just needed some time to rest. Ya' see, he really *is* responsible for everything!
-

I've turned over a new leaf. I'm even nice to MrC now, even though he is a big ole' meanie liberal.

You shoulda stayed away until December to give 'em more time to think :laugh2:

Heh . . . welcome back. Will you be staying long, or just passing through?

Thanks. Back a bit but not like before. Life changes, you know?
-
I bet you have gotten a raise at work from your inexplicable (to the boss at least) rise in work production! ;)
-
I'll chip in $10 to the "Go away and never come back" fund.
Last I checked, you were the one that got hit with the ban hammer and had people cheering in response.

Again? Or was that before I left.
-
Not again. Just pointing out that maybe he doesn't have much weight to throw around when it comes to saying who should stay or go.
-
Make it $100 and I'm gone for a month. ;D

Give me $100 and I'll leave this board forever.
First off, I will hold you to the $100 commitment.
Having said that, if we are able to raise over $1000 to provide Ken Layton broadband for a few years, $100 would be a drop in the can. ;)

...I have a good laugh every time I see your avatar now, so I'm not in too much of a hurry to start a fundraiser.
