My MOBO supports the wake up function and I was wondering if i can use this with one of my pushbuttons connected to I-PAC. The wake up feature in the bios is very customizable. I could use "any key" or even "combination of keys".
Is it possible to use that function or the I-PAC doesn't work until the PC is on ?

normally i would say to put a capacitor on the power button connection of the mobo (don't remember the exact one to be used but i thing that there are a lot of people that can tell you) so when you power up the cab the pc starts but if you want to go with the wake up function i would use key "1" (or the one that you use as player 1 start), if the I-PAC codes are 100% AT/PS2 correct (no strange timings etc) should work with no problem (as long as the PS2 bus is always fully powered).

I think wake up via mobo is an awesome idea, but every time I have ever tried it I get issues. Ive tried it on several boards, and it will work, but now and then the machine would hang or give random bios errors. I would disable it and it would go away.

In answer to this, Yes. The ipac gets its power from either the pc's PS2 port or Via the USB ports. The only way you could conceivably keep it on all the time is to hack a usb pass through adapter and get an ac adapter that applies the correct voltage, and cut the power coming from the computer.
If you want to make this super easy, just get a smart strip and plug your pc into port one, and everything else after that. That way your pc will control the power to your whole cabinet. Now take one of your arcade buttons, and wire the micro switch to the power button headers on the motherboard of your pc. A dead pc case that you can gut will help with this part.
This is by far the easiest way to do this. The power strip only costs around $30.00 and is a must have for your mame machine.

Instead of wake-up, check to see if your bios has the option "reboot on power loss" or something like that. I had the option and always associated it with if I have a power failure, the sucker would restart when power comes back on. That's true, but it has nothing to do with a power failure. It simply means, when it gets AC, it turns on. So I've got my power bar wired so it turns on when the cab is flicked on, with the result, the power supply starts getting AC power, so it boots up the PC.
Hope I explained this ok, it works like a charm.
