Title: UltraStick 360 & Dreamcast
Post by: milhouse on February 27, 2008, 02:55:41 pm
Does anyone know of a way to hook up an UltraStick 360 (or any USB controler) to a Dreamcast?  I wanted to hook up my arcade controls to a DC but I realized that my primary sticks are 360s and I don't think the DC can handle USB. I am guessing I could use output mode on the UltraStick, but then I'd have to get another Keywiz for all the buttons I currently have hooked up to them.

Thanks.

how would you connect the buttons?

A regular controller hack?

Doesn't the U360 have a "breakout" connector that can act as inputs or outputs? i.e. either extra buttons (inputs) or as outputs for hooking up via a ipac?

Obviously, this means you get no analogue control.

Yeah - I don't think it can be done, but I was wondering if anyone thought of something I didn't.  Maybe a better question would be if there are any adapters to connect a USB controller to a Dreamcast, since that would be the easiest way (Google turns up nothing)

You could, theoretically, use the raw analog output and controller hacks....and use additional switching to switch to digital mode for games which require it.  I just got mine yesterday.  The race is on.  I'll be back to this thread in a few years, LOL.  First I am just gonna hook it up in output mode to my X-arcade for Dreamcast and PS2.

the reason I asked about the buttons is I was a little lost when you had mentioned using a keywiz.

I made this box and installed the analog signals to them after these were taken so there not pictured yet but I have each controller pcb hooked to a 4PdT toggle switch to switch between analog and digital on the fly

I dont think there is any usb stuff for the dc's game ports that I know of.

I will look into the joystick you have and see if they can be wired into the dc pad somehow or not.

Hi I checked the ultimarc site and it does state there is an optional 4 wire harness that can go to a ipac keywiz etc. and act like it is a 4-way joystick.

if that is the case you would hook the 4 wires from each joystick to the center row of termnal/poles on each of the 4PDT switch and on each end of the 4PDT switch goes your analog and digital signals that would run to the dc gamepad pcb's.

as seen in my pics I make everything on DB-25 including the actual arcade controls and they connect to DB-25 switch box's so arcade,pc,dc are all on a switchbox's for the controls and video for each system set running.
