Ok, I have a cocktail, racing setup, 4 player mame cab, LOTR pin & a Popeye slot machine with a 19" lcd(Popeye speaks Japanese). Since mame is so weak on guns I want a shooter...I have a 29" doorway so I gave up on Karnevil(love the artwork) but I was told the game gets old very quick you can finish the game in 1 night on Freeplay(plus the game is huge). Any ideas on a shooter 29" or less in width that is a good one.

Just looking for some input on my last pc(then I need a bigger gameroom)

Just you playing?
Seems those Silent Scope games are fun. Also - Point Blank is great.

Usually me & the boy(he is 12)

Exidy shooters are fun (Crossbow, etc) and they even have an Exidy multi-game out there somewhere.
-
I really liked House of the Dead 2.
-
If it's you and the boy - get one of those challenge games where you can play for the best score. Like - Police Trainer, Egg venture or Point Blank 1 or 2.
I got a weak spot in my heart for Buck Hunter

Pretty much any single game will get old fairly quickly.
My suggestion would be to build a cab for a PS2.
A 36" TV will easily fit through the door, if it doesn't have 4 feet of CP hanging off the front.
A PS2 will let you play all the PS1 shooters (Area 51, Maximum Force, Lethal Enforcers 1&2, etc...)
My personal favorites are the Point Blank series.
With a quick gun switch, you can play all the PS2 shooters (Vampire Night, Dino Stalker, Time Crisis series).
Another quick controller swap, and you could be playing DDR or Guitar Hero, as well.

I just bought 2 guncons and point blank1. I'm after 2 and 3, but they are a little harder to find. Do you know if I can play area51/maxforce, etc with the guncon?

how about Chiller? that's good family fun ;) hehe.. The Point Blank series is GREAT! Then of course you have the positional type guns.. Terminator 2, Beast Busters, Operation Thunderbolt. I used to have a blast playing those with my dad.. thats really the only kind of games he could figure out :D

I'm in the middle of a complete house remodel that's going to get me my game room, so I can't get to my Playstation at the moment to confirm it, but...
I don't think the Guncons work for the Area 51, Maximum Force, Lethal Enforcers, and the like.
Those work with the Konami Justifier type controller, which the Guncons don't emulate.
I picked up a couple switchable guns that will work for those, but they are not as good as the Guncons.
The Guncons are much more responsive, which is most noticeable on the "shoot the train" stages on Point Blank.
When you have to get off alot of shots quickly, the Guncons pick up every shot, whereas the others that I have will miss shots.

You could always by a third party gun that will do both Guncon and Guncon2 with the flip of a switch. Something like a Madcatz or something. Although, sometimes compatibility can be a problem. and BTW, I dont think any of the Konami games (Lethal Enforcers 1 &2) or Midway games (area 51, etc) were guncon compatible. Seems to be like I had a gun at one point that had three modes.. Konami, Guncon1, and Guncon2.
EDIT: oops.. I guess NoOne=NBA= beat me to it :)

I don't know where you live but if you check out the used section at the Namco website you might find a good shooting game for cheap in your area.

I bought my area 51 site 4 from a local namco arcade. It is a little tempermental but it has been working great for months. I only paid around $350.00 for it. The kids and even my wife love it.
-
Well, I jumped the gun tonight and ran down to my local used game store and picked up the following all for PS1.
Area 51 (Does not work with guncon)
Maximum Force (DOES work with guncon)
Gunfighter: The Legend of Jesse James (Works with guncon - timecrisis ripoff - this game is terrible)
Time Crisis (works with guncon, obviously)
Time Crisis: Project Titan (works with guncon, obviously)
Problem is, one of my guncons is off about 1" to the right, even with calibration. I'm going to take it apart and try to just clean everything and re-assemble, after all these things are like 10 years old.
Sorry to get jack your thread DM - thought you guys might like to see some results.

not to hijack the thread, but jsut wanted to give a "thank you" to the group for bringing up the Namco arcade thing. I was totally unaware of that. I kinda wish I would have known before I started building! LOL! Several of those were quite a bit cheaper than what I already have invested! Oh well. I've had a lot of fun doing it anyway.
And now back to the thread...

Hey I finally was able to contribute something instead of always asking questions! :)
I missed out on a Mortal Kombat 4 for $99 a few weeks ago. I didn't check their listings for a few weeks and of course that cab came up. Oh well. I don't have room for it anyway.

Time crisis one was always my long term favourite. There are shortcuts to find to get the time down and the game is quite good fun. If i was going for a dedicated shooter that would be it.
-
My two personal favorites are Police Trainer and Sharpshooter. If I were you, I would get a generic 25" dynamo cabinet or a midway MK style cabinet, and set it up to run both boards. Maybe even get some NOS art, or make up some custom art A-LA Ms. Pac reunion style.
The only problem is that gun game boards are fairly expensive. I rarely see a police trainer board go for less than $100.
-
Either Point Blank, Jurassic Park the Lost World or Time Crisis. You could always do what I did and incorporate a Playstation into your cabinet, purely for the Point Blank and Time Crisis games, or build one from scratch!

Would it possible to do a playstation 2 on my cab, I have a betson 27" with a 15 pin connecter, I would need some adaptor & be able to switch between the ps2 & my mame computer, any ideas

There is a PS2 emulator out there that you could try:
http://www.pcsx2.net/
There's a tut on how to do it here:

You can view the pcsx2 in action here:

Although it's in it's infancy (games do work) it's a matter of time before the PS2 emulator is perfected and runs perfectly.

If they include support to allow the USB port on the computer to emulate the PS port on the PS2, this might be an awesome solution.
That would allow the USB Guncon2 to work as a Justifier, a Guncon, or a Guncon 2.
The result would be that all gun games would be playable with the same gun.

I've never tried this...but you could get a cheap capture card for the pc...Run the ps2 through it, and then you could rig it to display the ps2 feed instead of your normal desktop/FE. You can get capture cards for really cheap on ebay...The picture quality will be pretty bad on a cheap card but may be worth the $20 risk for proof of concept.
I'm lucky I went with a 27" tv so I can switch between the pc and ps2. If you aren't in love with the betson - you could sell it, get a TV and a bunch of shooter games with the difference.
