Hello...
I am toying with the idea of building a simple website dedicated to my gameroom and hobby.
Does anyone have a recommendation (CHEAP to FREE if possible) for a newb to create a semi-modern site? I am a neophyte at BASIC HTML let alone anything else. I can get by ripping off others sites and changing the art elements...but that's about it.

I'd say a third party hosting solution - with a content management system - would be a good choice for you. Usually a small traffic personal site will run you about $50-75/year and they make available many different web apps that would fit your skill level very well.

Depends on what you want the site to do really, but Wordpress (blogging software) is pretty good, and very flexible. http://www.wordpress.com/

go with Wordpress or Blogger.com. That's all you need to showcase you gameroom/arcade.

Good suggestion - there are also plenty of free templates and support from the community.

I'll third the wordpress suggestion.

I'll fourth wordpress.
Also, the main thing to remember when building a website is that you can never use <blink> too often. It's like when you make a movie, every scene transition should be a star wipe. Some people may tell you not to use <blink>, but why eat hamburger when you can have steak?

don't forget my personal favorite:
<marquee behavior="alternate"></marquee>
Always a winner, or a weiner.... ;D

Hmm, are you refering to Turnarcade or to frizzlefried?

Yeah worpress is cool but don't forget to have the comments moderation turned on. I get spam comments by the truckload. You might even be better turning it off completely.

Ya, I also get a ton of spam, but I use the free plugin called Akismet which filters out about 95% of the spam, so I'd highly recommend installing it if you setup your web page with wordpress.

I'll add a fifth approval of Wordpress. Great for building a little mini community and interacting with your readers, giving them some input into your website. You didn't mention that, maybe you don't think you want that, but at the very least collectors can tell you what a great set of games you have...
Here are some straight forward templates you could use with Wordpress and customize from there...

I have a guess these may not be your tastes, but at least it gives you an idea that there is a tremendous community of users for Wordpress and that there are so many themes out there for every taste it will make your head spin.
