Title: Have I just made a BIG mistake?
Post by: Apollo on May 21, 2003, 12:32:39 am
I have my cabinet all set up to take a 20" refurbished arcade monitor which I will get delivered in a couple of weeks. I just read on someones cab project site that I won't be able to run windows because of the refresh rate. I was planning on using the Ultimarc ArcadeVGA card. Is this true? Will I have to just run MAME in DOS? I really wanted to use ArcadeOS or some other groovy Windows front end. I'm sure this is just a dumb newbie question but please HELP!

From Ultimarc site

Displays all boot, DOS and Windows screens. Displays Windows desktop in a choice of resolutions including interlaced and non-interlaced.

Allows DOS MAME or MAME32 to run almost all games at their native resolutions without hardware stretching, scan converters or other degradation.

All special modes available in Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 98 at all colour depths.

Desktop rotation supported in Windows for vertically-mounted monitors in Windows XP and 2000.

Choice of Windows desktop resolutions including interlaced and non-interlaced modes. Can be assigned hot-keys .

Virtual-desktop mode supported in XP and 2000, so you can run a desktop of 1024 X 768 and auto-pan.

===> Windows will work with the ArcadeVGA card

If you are looking for a groovy frontend, ArcadeOS is not your answer...there are many other better ones out there.

Great thanks for you info.
I can't wait to get started my monitor arrives next week but due to lack of funds my cab won't be finished for ages boohoo, like 8 or 10 months. I'll post some pics soon though. I've decided to use arcade monitor, arcadeVGA, & IPac4.
