Ok so I have a problem. I am going to list out pros vs cons, and I would appreciate any advice that I may have overlooked. I am really on the fence here, but it will help me in the future. Thx in advance.
I love Guitar Hero III. I have never played the games before, and I am blown away by the fun factor.
BUT, I have a problem. My Wii guitar is broken(somewhat). The whammy bar is acting up by being detected to absolutely nothing. So this may be a blessing because I can get my money back.
So here is the thing. Do I buy another or do I go with the PS2 version.
Pros with Wii. Better wireless, possible downloadable content in the future, more possibilities with future followups like GHIV, and feedback/rumble gimmick coming straight from guitar, possible best star power effect??
Cons-bad controller design because of it being a shell, whammy problem possible in the future.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS2 version which I have very little idea about.
Pros-Support for all previous GH games as well as future Aerosmith version, cheaper easier two player modes that Wii doesn't have yet for a separate buy, wired guitar possibly the best???, guitar is a complete unit and not just a shell.
Cons-Is wireless bad?, no support for GHIV in the future, is star power not very good, or at least alot worse then wii? Is their fault rate on guitars any better? Is the rumble/feedback missing that bad??
Any opinions are what I am looking for, and perhaps it may help others toward their decision.
By the way, should I say F it all and get Rock band. he he.

I assume you have the Wii game already? If so, I would just buy a replacement guitar. I don't see a point in buying the whole game all over again.

I have a wii, but the one thing I hate is the fact that it is a shell and I have to keep swapping the controls. That and there seems to be a common issue with the whammy bar. It makes me mad to shell out this kind of money for kids(and me he he) and it start malfunctioning!
I just keep asking myself, is wireless really that important and are there better options if I still go wireless.

Just did some research and saw that standalone Wii guitars aren't going to be ready for a couple of months. But Here's one I'd like to get. (http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/01/08/nyko-introduces-first-third-party-wii-guitar/)

Con for the Wii - the game audio is so buggy that they recalled it.

Somehow I wish I didn't know that:

But they are doing a recall:

get the 360 version. in fact scratch that, get rock band. I didnt like GH3 at all.

You can probably get a replacement through warranty with all the trouble they've had. I'd try that first and contact them about it. Rock Band has been really good about replacements as well, even way beyond the official warranty time. Why buy either version again if you already paid for it once, or even go through the trouble of a refund/rebuy?
As for wireless being a "con" -- nope. I've got wireless guitars for both PS2 and Xbox 360 and they are great. No lag, no interference, no problems. They are awesome. Most certainly NOT a con in this whole situation. I also don't see how the Wii would have the "best" star power? Is there some functionality added in the Wii for it? I haven't read anything on it and as for the PS2/360 versions, star power works just fine.
I only played GH3 for about an hour on the Wii, but I wasn't impressed with the audio. I don't know if it was actually mono but I told my friend it sounded a bit off. I find the 360 version to be far superior personally. In your case, I'd recommend the PS2 version as all my PS2 games work just fine audio-wise.
I also wouldn't put a lot of faith in future downloadable content for the Wii for two reasons -- Nintendo is notoriously slow with their online content and frankly they are wayyyyyy behind. Also, Rock Band is completely wiping the floor with GH as far as DLC is concerned. There is no comparison, and GH has really dropped the ball with new content.

I got the wii version returned at full cost. Gotta love Walmart. It took 2 hours, because I had to get bigwig manager approval. The hitch was the fact that the game was opened. You know how that goes...anyway they did it.
SO I found a old SG Red that had a wire for 20 bucks...then I found another. PS2 is great and having the older versions as well(found the double pack) has been great fun...especially the two player.
YET, I may just take back the 2 sg's because of the wires. They really do bug me. I hate that! I should have just got the bundle with the wireless Kramer! LOL It really is hard to win, and all this gets me so tired.
Great game though and great advice. Sometimes I wish I would have sprung for the PS3 instead of the wii specifically for Rockband(I hear the PS2 version is complete ass in quality), but I hope Wii gets back on track. They had a great start, but it isn't over yet. Nintendo has a long way to go and their interface may be their downfall if they don't hop to it!

Oh yeah, I got to admit that the starpower is no different. It works great. I would say the graphics of the PS2 are not quite as good, definetly a bit more jagged, and longer load times. Of course no rumble, and none of the feedback straight from the guitar(that annoyed me anyway!). There is no online play, which I don't care about anyway.
All that asside, I am very very happy with the change. I like the Wii for other games, and hopefully more in the future. I am still cruious how first person shooters will work out.
But with the PS2, this is the way to go for Guitar Hero...for now.
Yeah a Xbox 360 would be nice, but I think their ass is grass in the long run. Gotta love the new age, so many choices and a great time to be a gamer...old and new!

I just got a used 100% working PS2 withg controlers and memory card for $70.
Now I need to find a set of boot disks.
Already had a controler but they go for about $35 used.
Anyway, it'd get you in the game for about $100.
I'm only 1/2 way throught the 1st one on expert mode.
This game IS adictive!

I have Guitar Hero III for the Wii. And unless your just picky, you wont even notice that the sound is mono. Still sounds good. Just like on IGN's review, they mentioned that they didn't even notice it was mono audio. So unless you know about that sound problem, I really doubt it matters.
-
The sound isn't mono on the corrected discs. Send that back and get a new one. My Wii GHIII is Dolby PLII.
-
Will you be able to use the Wii GH Guitar with Rockband when that comes out in a few months???
-
All signs point to "no", but I'm basing that on half a dozen different articles I read last night. (Their official answer: "Talk to Activision" - seriously).
