Just wondering if this type of software is around.
Is a program which runs with mame that when you run a rom it tells you what buttons to use etc.
Such as 1942 uses 2 buttons where are 88 games uses three. Something like an image that comes up on the bottom of the screen that shows you the original game panel button controls.
Just wondeing as I thought this would be a great idea if possible.

It is out there. I have seen people with crazy setups in which the buttons glow the original color they did in the arcade, and only the required buttons light up. Another guy went a step forward, and when a game is selected a voice states what each button does as it flashes in corresponding order. Crazy I tell ya!

I think the talking controls is a bit overboard but still interesting.
I'm sure interested in lighting the buttons that will be used.
What is needed for that aside from the lit buttons of course.
I just recently purchased 150 lit buttons for $1.00 each so I'd love to know how to wire them in regards to lighting for each game.
The buttons I purchased have 12v lights in them.
So what else do I need for this type of control?

I think the talking controls is a bit overboard...
You'd think that until you're firing up Defender. ;)

The Dope Brothers machine....That setup takes it over the top...watch the video and you can see how he shows an image of the control panel layout and he also lights up just the buttons which apply to a particular game... Dope Indeed ;)

All you need is MALA, LedBlinky and a LedWiz (or another LED controller). All but the LedWiz are free software.

Chrimeg,
Well, you need hardware and software...
On the hardware side, you have a few choices, GroovyGameGear.com and Ultimarc.com both make USB Lighting Output controllers (LEDWiz and PacDrive). The MaLa FE also has a LED hardware module you can purchase. Problem is, all these controllers are designed for LEDs or 5v lamps - you have 12v lamps. Not sure what you can do with those, but I'm sure someone else on this forum can help with that.
As for the software, again you have multiple choices. Many of the FEs now have LED support built in or available via a plugin. Check out the Wiki section on Front-End Software, there's a great comparison table (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends) - look for the FEs with the "LED" option.
You should also search the forum for LED, LEDWiz, PACDrive, LEDBlinky, etc.

lit buttons for $1? were did you get them?

Well the buttons were purchased at Princess Auto.... http://www.princessauto.com/PAcountry.cfm?CTRY=CAN&INF=home
If you need the SKU number I can give it to. You should be able to contact them and place an order.
Also, Has anyone ever built their own LED Blinky hardware?
