I just picked up Golden Tee PC, and I am using my 8ball/trackball hack. I get backspin so I can't play golden tee like the arcade, but I can play it.
I am really tempted by the 3" TB sale at Happs, but if I were to upgrade is really worth it for Golden Tee PC? Does Golden Tee PC really play as well as in the arcade? Obviously the feel would be much better than what I have now, but is it comparable to the arcade feel (hard spinning drives and smooth rolling puts)
When most of you guys are talking about Golden Tee, I am assuming PC version. I know there are some old school roms in mame, but not as nice to look at as the PC version. What version are you guys playing?
I have also seen some projects that have Tiger Woods on their cabs...how does that play with a trackball.
Or in order to get my golden tee fix at home should I begin another project to build a dedicated golden tee from a PCB?
Thanks

Hmm... that's odd...
is it an arcade 2 1/4" trackball with the 8ball? or a regular PC mouse?
Doesn't PC Goldent Tee let you set the swing rate when you first fire it up (i.e. the 5 "practice" swings and the number it assigns for sensitivity?)
*shrug*

I've got a Happs 3" trackball and play Golden Tee PC all the time. It doesn't play exactly like the arcade, but it is a reasonable facsimile.

it's a pc trackball with the heavier 8 ball, and it's the backspin that really keeps me from playing "correctly"...you know big smack and a spin.
looks like the happ(or any arcade ball) is the way to go to get rid of backspin. I think I went with the pc trackball just because it looked easier to install. I've got some good info from you guys so I think it might be time to upgrade.
anybody playing other games? or successfully made a cabinet with a GT PCB?
thanks

FWIW in this thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=7501) I provide boffo links to the myriad of trackball deals out there (i recommend getting the mounting plate btw for ease of mounting)
You could probably buy the wico (or happs) 2 1/4" trackball and keep your 8ball asthetic... *shrug* or go for the 3" golden tee style.

I've seen a few notes about breaking off every other tine on the wheel to solve backspin problems...

hmmm, I have a 3" tball too, but I also play it with a mouse. I get no backspin. That's odd.

I took someones advice and downloaded the demo for PGA Tour 2000.....its got somethign called "Trueswing" which is pretty much golden tee.
Only you don't need to slam the ball.....with a mouse, or a trackball, a quick wrist flick back and forward is good enough.....so you don't have to have an arcade trackball.

How wrong. PGA 2000 is NOT like golden tee. I have the full version. It's trueSwing, I think, is the best system out there. It's all about skill, not power. If you swing to hard you could wiff the ball or cause it to not go straight. Same with moving the mouse, if you don't move it straight the ball won't go straight. In order to do long straight shots you have to have a smooth, rythmic stroke, like you do in real golf.

Tiger Woods runs really good with the trackball. A Happs trackball is expensive to add to a cab, but well worth the money IMO.

Not Golden Tee golf, but..... take a look at Links Golf 2003. I run both Tiger Woods and Links, both work EXTREMELY well with the happs 3" trackball - using the Truswing feature. I think Links golf adds a few extra features that make it #1, like showing where the ball meets that clubface on impact, etc.... plus the graphics on Links are top notch.
My 2 cents,

Poonga.....relax.....its similar to Golden Tee in that the mechanics of having to control your swing are there, but you dont have to whail on the controller, making it more suitable for home-cab use.
IE: its not like the old golf games like Links where it was all about timing your button-presses to get good shots.
