I wasnt aware that there was a "Tempest Street fighter 2" game. Also, doesnt SF2 require 6 buttons per player?
-
Well besides the fact that the cab is rockin' SFII I also noticed that the pic shows 2 other cabs - one of which looks to be Robocop - that's a sin all its own. Data East in the house!
He should know better though, being that he seems to have some experience with previous cabs.

True, but I think you may be missing the juxtaposition with SF2 running on a TEMPEST cab! (And I think that is the worse-er of all the evils)

No, no - I got that. I just figured it was pointed out as plain as could be by the previous poster above. I was just pointing out a few other of the "things" wrong with the pic, thats all. :P

OK:
/me scares people:
I ACTUALLY LIKED Robocop!

I won't hold that against you lol
I was never a fan of the arcade game. The movies and the pinball machines pwn though!

Was this an auction you came across, Lew? The screen almost looks a little suspicious to me. The camera flash doesn't seem to be reflecting where you think it would be. Computer, enhance top center section...
-
No blue t-moulding?
-
Looks like someones been playing with photoshop.
-
thread will continue WITHOUT name calling. Carry on.

I LOL'd for real when I read that. I think the controls look genuine, but the screen may be shopped.
In other news, The Tempest Marquee is so bad ass.
-
I think it's genuine. It looks like a 2-player game has been started and left as is. Some cameras are good at balancing light.
Takes me back, cos the first time I ever played SF2 was down our local dodgy arcade, and it only had 3 punch buttons. Fine if you played as Blanka or someone whose moves were all done with punch buttons!
We spent weeks trying to figure out how to kick til we learned the truth.
If you're gonna wreck a classic, he could have at least made it half worth a conversion and stuck 6 buttons on each!
-
No photoshop was used by me on the image.
-
That guy is just a terrible human being -- Sir Auros can say what he wants about nasty purists, but that guy is totally deserving of being called bad names.
Especially considering that he has similarly MAIMed(tm) such classics as Space Duel, Asteroids (joysticks and trackball on an Asteroids panel!), Defender, along with other Williams and Atari original cabs (even when disguised as something else).
He's also in violation of the MAME license, but that's more a rule violation than outright blasphemy. ;)
Dude needs to be stuffed in a cab, set on fire and photographed for Hellcade.
-
Wow I hope that is a repro CP overlay and not a NOS one. Other than that possibility - believe it or not - I'm not too upset over this one. Keep in mind while I say that I'm a total vector purist. The only thing I can see that is modded beyond repair is the CP overlay. The marquee, the cab itself, from this angle look original and actually in great shape. If the monitor was dead beyond repair, this isn't too bad a use of the cab. Hell even if the monitor was alive but used to save a rarer color vector, this could be a whole lot worse.

I thought that picture looked familiar:

... and here I was feeling guilty for MAMEing an already-converted Centipede cab ;)

Did you really mean to say that out loud ?
;)
EDIT: So I don't come across as totally negative ... here is a link to one of my favourite projects ... another MAMEd converted Centipede. I've seen this cab in person and it is absolutely gorgeous.

Kinda makes you wonder why I would leave that link out of my original post...

Yah take a look at his hall of fame: http://arcadehollywood.net/578.html
The sad thing is he strictly builds them to sell on ebay and craigslist... He actually lives near me so when I search ebay for arcade games near me his hideous conversions are always listed first...
His current machines for sale: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZarcadehollywood

All those MAMED cabinets for that much bank and his house still looks ghetto. I can't be sure, but that looks like the same :censored:tastic cheesy linoleum I see in every ghetto place I've ever had the misfortune of visiting. And he's got ply down to protect it?!?
-
He is selling a LICENSED version of ESB (as per his ad) ... I didn't know there was such an animal available ...
-
:'(
wow.. that thing sucks for SFII AND Tempest... I hope he's happy
-
OMG.. and I'm really loving the Stargate with Galaga artwork... WTF!!!

haha.. well, when you sell dozens of Mame cabs for nearly $2000 you can afford such luxurious decor :)

It's an even more exeaggerated claim if you look at his feedback; his last sale was in November last year according to the feedback (and was it even a cabinet?).
We all know you can't get that combination of games available on re-sale licence either.
If that was one of his machines shown on The Hills (my missus watches it, not me!), then they want shooting as well for buying from him.
