Title: dubs by the pub (lots of pics, warning for slow connections!)
Post by: danny_galaga on February 18, 2008, 04:45:27 am
i went to a vw fest on sunday, taking 'the master with me (for those who dont know, the master is my type 3 vw). the event wasnt as fun as i thought it might be, but i got some good pics and met a few nice folk. and got sun burnt too. we met at bonndall entertainment centre and then made a convoy to the ettamogah pub. a wonderful sight to see VWs all the way to the horizon (",)

here you see the master next to a lowered type 3. quite a difference eh? the station wagon next to it lost its muffler over a speed bump on the way to the event. luckily there were swap n shop things happening too, so he picked up a stainless muffler and put it on at the show.

some more pics. the faded green beetle was a classic 'chicken shed' type deal. the guy got it from his father in law who had left it undercover for 30 years. he left a large rubber mat on top so the only rust in the car is where the mat rested on the bodywork.

the pub. this is actually a copy of a pub that features in a comic strip of the same name- ettamogah pub. if you look closely there is a chevy pick up or similar on the roof top (",)

some more. there were hardly any ovals there. i guess they are becoming quite rare. there were actually many more ghias than ovals!
the kit car is a sabre. i had heard of it but never had a close look at one. there were apparently only 24 made. and only 8 are registered now. a pity because this is a quality car. space frame, electric windows, custom made windscreen (which you can still buy!). this one is fitted with a 1.8 subaru engine. hes selling it for $19000, unfinished. maybe i should get a car loan  ;D

Very Cool!

That Sabre appears to be a Porsche 904 replica.

frizzle, are you saying you only have the engine  ;D  if the rest is yours, cool buggy (",) i always dreamed of having one but never did. i had a beach buggy that was a piece of poo. it got stolen and trashed. i collected all the good bits and bought a brand new beach buggy body and was given another floor pan. even though everything was new, it was a piece of poo too!

erik, its not a replica of the porsche. rather it is reminiscent of many 60s/70s sports cars.

Dubs are one of the fugliest cars know to man. However, the sabre is cool - just need to put a real engine in it...

Lawn mower engines don't count...

Shoehorn a Chevy small block in there - 5.7L should do the trick quite nicely.
