Title: Ipac quality?
Post by: dev on March 12, 2002, 12:11:55 am
I plan on using an ipac and a arcade monitor video amplifier. I was just look'in for feedback from people who have used these products. The whole bad eeprom thing I read in this forum doesn't exactly pump me up.

NO probs with my Ipac.

Mind you I just got it about 2 wks ago.. but so far.. had about 5-8 people banging on it.. (Well it's protected enough) but as far as my use, and my friends use go...

WE LOVE IT!

The IPAC is the best thing since sliced bread and bubble gum...

It can't be beat for interfacing arcade controls to a PC.

Bad batches of products or components can always slip through, regardless of how tight quality control standards are. I work as a manufacturing engineer for one of the largest corporations in the world, so I've seen stuff like this all the time.

The key point to remember is this...did people come into this board kicking and screaming that they got no support from Andy at Ultimarc? NO. As soon as Andy knew there was a problem, he posted to this board, and offered to fix the situation for anybody with this issue. I believe the fix was as simple as swapping out the bad eprom chip with a new one.

That level of service and commitment to the customer should be commended...

And, if that doesn't convince you, the IPAC does things and has features that you can't find in any standard keyboard encoder, period.

So there you have it...great, unique product at a great price with great support...you make the call.  :)

No, I'm not a paid actor, I'm an actual happy customer.  ;D

I have had mine for about 2 months and love it!  Only problems I have had were from my ignorance.  Being able to program it on the fly is too good to be true. This allows me to reprogram my Ipac and lauch my PC games.

I have never heard any bad feedback on the Ipac.

Another VERY satisfied customer here.  Don't even give it a second thought.  It's worth every penny.

Yep. The i-pac is a quality piece of kit.

But seeing as you will be making a video amplifier, might I suggest the J-Pac. As this has a built in amplifier.
It's also available from Andy Warne.

Another Vote for the I-Pac, I have 6 of them ready to install right now (myself and friends) I have used another brand encoder before, the worst diadvantage with those (not going to name names) was that there was no easy way to terminate the wires to the board, it used a 20 pin connector, like 1/2 a IDE cable, I asked the company where I purchased it what they used, maybe they had a connector to puchase optionally, they didn't they said to use 1/2 a IDE ribbon cable, thats what they used??? Have you ever seen the guage or size of wires in those cables??? About the size of a human hair, almost impossible to use, maybe there was a easier way? But with the I-Pac it is so easy, as well as using it for MAME as all connections are marked, if people complain about it (can't imagine why) they probably haven't tried to hook up another type like I had to! Good Luck matt

We use the I-PAC in our OzSticks and I have only ever had a problem with one, which turned out to be a 'user related problem'.

Support is also first class, Andy Warne is a great guy to deal with and has always answered my e-mails quickly.
I cannot go far enough toward recommending an I-PAC to anyone!

I hear great things about the support, but I don't have any experience with it... Mine have worked flawlessly so I haven't needed any.  They came very quickly.  I would have no reservations about sending Andy any of my money for his outstanding products.

8) Andy is cool!  8)
