This video jukebox is capable of playing audio and/or video files. The user interfaces with the jukebox application using a touchscreen monitor and can view the videos being played on the secondary monitor mounted above. The jukebox comes complete with lyrics for all songs as well as LED lights which dance to the music. The jukebox has the ability to broadcast music over a chosen FM frequency so the music can be listened to via a standard radio which allows for listening while outside. The jukebox can be manipulated using a remote control which works at distances of greater than 60 feet and also works through walls. Again, this is perfect for outside listening.

Just wanted to mention that in early 2003 I started designing/coding my jukebox software in preparation of having a jukebox cabinet one day. Well, it took me a long time to get the jukebox software how I wanted it and when I was done coding it I was just to tired to spend any time on building an actual jukebox cabinet. I was burnt out with all the effort I put into the software. Anyway, early last year I got a second wind and my wife approved the construction project :applaud: I first updated the software again to have dual monitor support and a bunch of other stuff I learned I wanted in the year or so I was using the software. Once the software was finished again, I still had enough steam left to start building the cabinet. I started in the beginning of October 2007 and finally finished it 4-1/2 months later ..... I am now going to take a break and enjoy my cabinet. I still find it hard to imagine that I finally have a jukebox cabinet sitting in my house using my own software ..... it has been a really long time.

Ahh ... this was just so I could get the video. The video is kind of dark so you can see the lights nicely. To see the bright color of the jukebox, just go to my site and see the pictures.

What did you use to get the side lights and speaker rings to dance?

The speaker rings on the front of the cabinet dance with just noise which it hears so it picks up the sound coming right from the speakers.
The three Luminglas disks are on all the time so no sound activation with them. I could change them to flash with the sound, but that would be too much flashing :P
The slits in the sides of the jukebox light up with the help of an LED-Wiz (and LED lights) from GGG as well as using Randy's "Lumin Audio" software which make the LED lights dance to the music being played from the computer.
The audio from the computer is fed into a stereo receiver which then pumps the sound to the speakers.
I have switches on top of the jukebox which I use to turn on/off the computer, the lights and the monitors/receiver.

I just took a look at the construction pics. Nice job! You have the same model Kenwood that I do! My remote sensor on mine is shot, but everything else works perfectly. I may have to buy a new receiver and use the Kenwood on a jukebox! :laugh2:
I have questions about the monitors: What's plugged into where and what video card did you use? Is the monitor that's on top the secondary monitor in a dual monitor setup? Is the touchscreen the primary monitor? Are they both plugged into DVI inputs, or is there an adapter for one of the inputs?

The 18" LCD flat touchscreen monitor is the primary monitor and the 17" Dell LCD Flat panel monitor is the secondary monitor in the dual monitor setup.
Not real sure what type of video card I have in there since I got a cheap one from Ebay, although I know it has one SVGA and one DVI output port. I connected a DVI->SVGA converter connector on the DVI port so I could connect the secondary monitor (VGA) to it.
As for the Kenwood receiver ..... I picked that up locally from a guy for $40 who was upgrading all his stuff to be HD. I thought I got a great deal for that receiver. Anyway, I do not think my remote control works for it either ..... it has been a while so I should make sure the batteries are good, but I seem to remember it did not work. No big deal since I adjust the volume of the cabinet via my jukebox software anyway.
I connected a splitter in the computer's audio jack. One connection goes to the FM transmitter hardware I bought so the sound from the computer can be heard on the radio. The other connection is again split into RCA (red/white) stereo jacks which connect to the receiver. The speakers are obviously connected to the receiver. I am only using two sets of speakers. One set is referred to "A" and the other set is the "B" on the receiver. I simply activate "A" and "B" speakers sets at the same time to get sound from each of them.
I also have four switches on top of the cabinet (they are black so then blend in perfectly. Here are what the switches do:
1) Turn on/off computer. This button is on the opposite side from the others so I do not press it by accident :P
2) Turn on/off the receiver, primary monitor and secondary monitor. Since the computer never gets turned off at night, I use this switch to give the monitors and receiver a break when the jukebox is not in use.
3) Turn on/off the three Luminglas disks
4) Turn on/off the "UncleT's Jukebox" marquee LED lights.
Note: The side LED lights which are seen through the slits are not "turned off" via a switch but rather they turn themselves off when no music is playing on the computer so no need for a special switch for them. They are controlled via the Lumin Audio software.

I would say every 1-1/2 years I get the itch to build something new. Perhaps in the future I might try to build a pinball machine ..... but right now I am burnt out .... gonna take a break and just listen to some tunes.

Not sure how to answer the "How quick" question other than to say it seems like the lights are dancing to the music just fine without delay.

awesome work uncle T...really nicely done.
couple of questions:
1- is there any reason why you did not mount the speakers directly to the cabinet, instead you left them inside the original speaker boxes.
2 - how does the RF transmitter work...is it clear? any interference? what model are you using?
3 - then your frame started out by 2x4...would that be to prevent vibration from the music.

I love all the lights on the cabinet. It has a really really cool look to it. Top shelf all the way.
