Here's a link to the trailer for The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull:
Indy Trailer (http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/indianajones.html;_ylt=AsY7qv8MSH6wl3g1GC6bw55fVXcA)
Love the intro.
I have to admit that it's strange seeing such an old man playing Indiana Jones but I think that they're setting the story in the right time (late 50's) to make it a little easier to get over.
There looks to be some funny one-liners as well as a few corny-ones, but Last Crusade was pretty corn-ball so it's not like they're treading new ground. The bottom line is - I'm stoked.
Between this and Iron Man, I can't wait until May.
btw - The warehouse should look familiar. ;)
-
Looks like it will be a pretty good movie. Amazing what Lucas can do when he's not allowed to touch the dialogue. ;)

Could not agree more!

I thought the same thing. It would be cool if they had another Ark reference like in Crusade.
Did you catch the Roswell 1947 notation on the box Cate Blanchett was looking at?
-
Looks pretty good! Too bad they didn't bring back Short Round, though. ;D
-
It looks like he is going to use much more extensive (unrealistic?) use of his whip. Pretty exciting, though. I hope it's great.

At his age, definitely. :) He still has that trademark awkwardness, though.
-
I don't know. Ford looks noticeably old. Shouldn't have waited the 15 years or so.
-
Can you tell me if he is funny though ?
-
I don't know but you sure are. I'm surprised you didn't punch up that quip with some asterisks. That would have been sweet!

I'm sold

I was determined to watch that and NOT get excited...... but then it finished and I realised I was grinning from ear to ear.......... DAMN!
So I watched it again.
I'm excited.

From the moment I read it was definitive there hasn't been a single doubt in my mind I was going to see this at the theatre.....and buy the DVD.

quoted for truthiness. Im stoked

So, what do you guys think....will there be a V and VI ?

Yes, "Indiana Jones and the quest for a solid BM" :P
-
Indy V : Indy and Mola go to White Castle.

The studio may have such aspirations but it would have to be done with a new lead which I really don't think would work.
In 30 or 40 years I'm sure someone will remake or re-imagine the series for a new generation. Not that I think this is a smart idea. All good things must come to an end.
So far, Indy IV is looking like it will deliver a great ending.
-
Here's to hoping Shia LeBeuf has a tiny, tiny role.
Why? He's a good actor. He was great in Holes, and I know I've seen him in something fairly recently (when he wasn't so young) and remember him being good.

Maybe Disturbia? I don't have any misgivings about him being in the movie, either.

No-one will ever be able to deliver an Indiana Jones like Harisson.
I am SO glad they kicked out Magnum PI and took on Harrison instead :)

He is a terrible "actor". He was the same in Holes as he was in Transformers as he was in I, Robot. The same ---goshdarn--- person in each movie and annoying in all of them. It isn't acting to be the same thing in every movie you're in.
One thing that concerns me about this is the fact that every one of these bigtime sequels lately makes the heroes more super than superman. The latest Die Hard was like that too. A lot of the charm of these movies is that the hero is human - caught in an unbelievable situation - but manages to pull of a sequence of very difficult acts to eventually win. Every single act is humanly possible. In that last Die Hard movie Bruce Willis is driving a semi up a crumbling overpass, jumping around on the body of a fighter jet, etc. Just in that trailer Indy is flying through window after window - he shot backwards through the windshield of a moving car and didn't even grimace in pain. It really kills the humanity of the hero when he is doing things Spiderman would have trouble with.
-
I guess I,robot was the most disappointing movie I ever saw. Must have been because I read and loved the book.
Same thing with War of the Worlds. Why does Hollywood always have to Americanize a great story.
Stupid lightning flashes awakening the Martians underground.....read the book !

Dammit Chad, stop making sense and saying stuff I agree with ;D I TOTALLY agree with you on this, and my first impression from the Indy IV trailer was "gee, I sure hope all the action scenes aren't as fakey as this one is". Sure, some of the action stuff in the original indy films was outlandish, but he would get hurt when he fell, bled when he got hit, etc....
The new Die Hard movie was so ridiculous....
-
The advance word on this isn't exactly making me feel all warm & fuzzy. :-\
... but I'm still going, of course.
-
I totally agree with Chad about making the heros superhuman. I've often said that is exactly the difference that makes Indiana Jones movies good and Tomb Raider movies bad -- Indy's vulnerability. It's the same reason that a videogame quickly becomes boring after you turn on cheats like god mode. Winning is no fun if there is no risk of losing. It's also why I find Superman to be such a crappy Superhero. He's basically Jesus + invulnerability + almost all the superpowers. He doesn't risk anything by going up against the bad guys. But I digress . . .
I disagree about what makes an actor. Acting, even acting like yourself is difficult. It's obviously easy to be yourself in real life. Delivering memorized lines, however, so they sound spontaneous and authentic, even with your own personality, is difficult, and few people can do it convincingly. If that's the only personality he can do, then he's a character actor. He lacks versatility. Nevertheless, I've always thought he's done a really good job and been entertained by him in movies. I've only seen him in Holes, Constantine, Transformers and Surf's Up. I've seen iRobot, but I can't for the life of me remember him being in it. The movie wasn't very good, though. I hated Transformers, but I didn't have a problem with him. I thought he was great in Constantine and, contrary to Chad's assertion, he's totally different in Surf's Up. Maybe that's different, though, since he's only providing a voice, and not the whole nine yards. Nevertheless, he was very convincing as a teenage surfer.

@ somunny, how is the warehouse familiar :dunno? pls explain
-
It looks like it's possibly the same warehouse where the Arc of the Covenant was taken at the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc*.

I've heard that Roswell and the Ark are relevant to the plot line. In an interview, it was said that Spielberg and Ford shot Lucas down for 10 years on a script because Lucas wanted to make the movie ALL about aliens. In the end they came to a consolation on the aliens bit. Noone knows how much of the alien stuff will be included, but it is in there.
Personally, I love the fact that they will be revisiting the plot lines from the 1st film. It was by far the best of the three.
-
When did Lucas become such a ---smurfing--- retard?
-
I guess I,robot was the most disappointing movie I ever saw. Must have been because I read and loved the book.
The book? there were like 6 or 8 Asimov novels the movie was based on not just "The Three Laws of Robotics", I only ever read 4 of them and I thought the movie did a great job of projecting the core idea of the books. Dialog was a lil weak, but other then that I loved that movie.
I've seen iRobot, but I can't for the life of me remember him being in it.
"Dude she shot with her eyes closed"
He was "farber" cussed alot and everytime he did will smith told him to stop cause he was bad at it, it was a forgettable acting "experience" so I understand.
Oh and Iron Man was f***ing AWESOME
-
Just finished watching The Last Crusade again. It was far better than I remembered it being as a kid. Same with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Sadly, Temple of Doom was far worse than I remembered it being as a kid. ;D That one was like the ugly step-child of the Trilogy.

Well there was a book by Asimov called I, Robot, but it was basically a collection of short stories with a little bit of narrative added to tied them together. The plot of the movie had absolutely nothing to do with any of the short stories in the book, which is why it would be very disappointing to someone who had expected to see something based on the book.

Yeah . . . I'm sure that should do it for me. I typically have a very good memory, especially for conversations and dialog. I'm getting nothing, though. I think it's because I basically thought the whole movie was pretty forgettable. Not good, but not memorably bad.

USA has beens showing the Indy movies all day today. Basically unedited and in the restored widescreen formats. VERY nice to watch on TV. Didn't need to break out my DVDs like I usually do when a good older movie is on TV.
-
I read an article in the paper the other day about Lucas wanting to go over the top with the alien plotline. Thank God he got shot down or this movie would probably have Jar Jar Binks in it. When I saw that Shai Leboufe (whatever) was in it, I was hugely disappointed, but after seeing the trailer, I'm looking forward to it.

I, too, recently watched Last Crusade (with my kids) and that's one of the reasons I still have high hopes for Crystal Skull. IMO, it would be hard pressed to be any sillier than LC.
