I have some serious problems when playing smash TV, using both joysticks. The player won't move in many directions or even shot other than sometimes up and down. Have anyone experienced this problem before?
I'm using MAMEUI32. Both joysticks work fine in other games - so I don't really have a clue what to look for. Then I thought that maybe some of you guys maybe had a solution or an idea of what to try out.
-
You did try to configure both joysticks for that game right....and if so try robotron and see how that works and if you get the same problem
-
How can I configure the joysticks directly to this game? I thought it should work, now that there wasn't any problems with any other games. Some of the P2 buttons can make the character shoot UP/DOWN - so maybe I have to do some configuring. But I think it's odd tough.
I'll try Robotron when I get home, to see if it performs better.

You can open MAME's Config menu, pick General Game Controls or Controls for This Game as needed, and setup controls for Player 1.
In the Player 1 list you will find settings for Joystick 1 & Joystick 2 (left and right)
Just set each to match your need for that particular game and it should work like a charm.

Thanks, this worked out great :)

Woops, already mentioned...nevermind

Quick question here...
Yesterday I ran into a similar problem...
I tried to config my joysticks (2 Perfect 360 (8-ways))
In the config menu "control for this game"
there were choices like "up-right".
I guessed that it means
(Left Joystick : up) + (Right Joystick : right)
which registered as "UP + Y" which match the joystick encoding...
I did the same for all 16 combinations...
Was that the right way to configure it?
If so, I'll give it another try to see if it work (or try robotron...)
Thanks

I don't think so (see below). ;)
Was that the right way to configure it?
Mame has 12 player 1 digital joystick "directions":
4 normal joystick (up, down, left, right)
4 left stick of dual stick (left_up, left_down, left_left, left_right)
4 right stick of dual stick (right_up, right_down, right_left, right_right)
Dual stick games have the left_* & right_* inputs. Just map your left stick to the left_* inputs, and your right stick to the right_*.

After reading your answer, I felt a bit stupid about what I did.
I just tried it and it works like a charm
thanks RebelScum!

Well, I'm confused.
When it says things like "left/left" "left/right" "right/left" and "right/right", how do you map these?
I wanted to try Robotron and it pretty much laughed me, so I tried to configure it and got all mixed up.

Left/Left is the left joystick, left direction ..
Right/Left is the right joystick, right direction, etc ...

Yeah, I just did more searching and figured it out. Thanks.

thank you for this thread!

Yeah, it's not very clear at first, but once you understand, you have to slap yourself on the forehead and go "Duh!"
