Hi all,
My first post on here, so go easy please. I did a quick search, but couldn't see a problem/solution.
I recently purchased a Big Century arcade cabinet from arcadecabinets.co.uk (an Ultimarc site) along with a Jpac and a PCI-E ArcadeVGA card. I plugged it all in today for the first time and powered it up. To begin with, without the PC turned on, the monitor made a bit of a high pitched whine, which died down, but did not completely disappear, but I thought this was fine, as I seem to recall you do get a bit of a whine with monitors/TV's.
When I switched the PC on though, the monitor started to make a sort of buzzing noise. The picture was absolutely fine. If I had to describe the sound I'd have to say it was like a short click, and it sounded like it was repeated at 50Hz - 60Hz, so I'm guessing it's linked to the output from the ArcadeVGA card.
My question is, is this normal? I waited for the PC to boot up, and then shut down without running MAME, just in case I was damaging the monitor at all. Even when it got to the 640x480 desktop it was still "buzzing", and I thought this monitor would run 640x480 fine.
Any help anyone could give on this, or any information they could supply would be greatly appreciated. I have also emailed Andy at Ultimarc (about 10 minutes ago) but have had no reply yet (obviously, given the time frame), and thought I'd ask elsewhere.
Thanks,
Francis Lillie

You know what? As a software developer of 19 years I should bloody well know better how to trace problems. It turns out it's nothing to do with the monitor at all and seems to be a speaker issue. I apologise if I've wasted anyone's time. Too eager to get it all working, that's what I am.

it is worth a look to see how/where the audio lines are ran.
quite possibly an interference issue -might try ferrite cores if no change by moving wires...
it would be helpful to hear what your hearing ..... :-\
gud luck de qrz
