With the OS Choices you have available to you, I would HIGHLY suggest using Windows XP Pro and use the nLite modification to trim it down to the bare essentials.
For MAME, I would get the AMD optimized version of the command line and use a frontend such as MAMEWah to run it.
Most importantly of all, take your time and don't be "just satisfied" with what you've done. Only be content when you look at it and go "Yeah, that is EXACTLY what I want."

Get the ArcadeVGA if you plan on using an arcade monitor. If you are using a TV or an LCD, or a computer monitor, any video card with TV out will work. If you are using an actual arcade monitor (and why not if you are building a full cab), then an Arcade VGA is almost required.

yeah it has an arcade monitor built in
but can't mame send a signal to the arcade monitor for 15 hz?

I've got another question
whats your opinion on MaLa?
I would also like to run NES, Sega Genesis, Super nintendo roms

In my opinion MALA is much easier and very less stressful to set up and get working .......

is your jukebox software will work with MALA?

It's dependent on the video card. That's why Ultimarc developed the ArcadeVGA. Or at least I think that's why he developed it. I can't profess to know what he thinks.
Only be content when you look at it and go "Yeah, that is EXACTLY what I want."
That actually happens?

Any PC software (ie: games, application, etc...) can be started via MALA. You just create a new emulator within MALA to have a separate gamelist which lists all of these PC games and applications. You scroll down, select one from the list and it will start. When adding my PC games into MALA, I created a separate BAT file for each game, then had MALA treat each BAT file as a ROM file. MALA would list all of my BAT files in the gamelist and once I selected a BAT filename from the MALA list, then the BAT file would get executed and my PC game would start/
Now, as for jukebox software, you can put my jukebox software in your list if you want and you will be able to scroll to it and start it up from within MALA if you want. I do not think many people start my application this way, but I could be wrong.
I would recommend trying out my jukebox software (remapping the keyboard keys appropriately) to decide if your arcade cabinet controls work well for you.
But, to answer your question ...... yes, my software (and many other software applications) can be started via MALA if you want to do this.

I use Maximus Arcade as my front end. It's free for 30 days to try out. After that it's $25 but it was very worth it to me. I find it super easy to set up and it looks very slick. Not to mention it's great for people to use and is user friendly.
However, it's not very popular since you have to pay for it. But to me it was worth it.
See it in action here:

Thanks for the Response for that i will check that out
now i want to get the arcadevga
but for the time being can mame force my geforce video card to output 15khz?
-
My only beef with maximus arcade was that, for whatever reason, it would cut off a small bit of the top of the screen, regardless of the resolution..however, if I JUST ran MAME on its own, I wouldn't have this problem.

Strange, that never happened to me. Did you try deleting the .ini file for Maximus Arcade first. Maybe the settings got altered somehow. By deleting the .ini file it sets it back to the defaults.
I would post that problem in the forums on their website, I'm sure it's a quick fix.

By the way, my arcade that you see there does not have an arcade VGA (yet). It's been running great without one using an onboard Nvidia GeForce 7 chipset. I had bad luck using a program called "soft12khz" but I did run a program called "powerstrip" which is free for 365 days. My time will be running out, so I decided to purchase an Arcade VGA 2 (it's not here yet). Once you install and configure powerstrip, everything else runs automagically. No need to configure MAME.
You can read how to do it here (you simply have to cut and paste some info into the powerstrip.ini file for it to recognize the 15khz resolutions)

Good luck!
