Title: Advice for fixing my mistake?

You guys did so well on my last question that I have one more: On my completed cabinet, I drilled a 1-1/8" hole for a button on the side of the cabinet (for the coin button).  However, the button wouldn't fit there because the monitor was right behind the hole and there wasn't enough clearance for the button.

So I moved the button down a couple of inches and it works fine.

But I have a 1-1/8" hole in my cabinet.  Does anyone have a nice suggestion for covering that hole?  Is there a cool light or something I can stick there?

Buy some wood filler in any hardware store.

let it dry, and paint over  ;)

For a hole that big? Shouldn't he glue in a wooden plug and then use wood filler?

Yeah, I could patch it a couple of ways no problem... just wondered if there were other creative ideas.

Hi. You could use a button plug (i think thats what they're called anyway). It's (you guessed it) to cover up an unused button hole (it's plastic and usually colored black). You see them on ebay from time to time.

Kind of late but you could have just used a smaller button.

Go buy a wood dowel and cut off the depth that you need. Plug the hole with it and throw some wood filler on it.  Sand and paint or cover with your CPO or whatever.

If the cabinet is done and you don't feel like filling/painting/sanding etc, just drill a matching hole on the other side and use button plugs. ;D

Is the cabinet laminated or painted?  That will make a big difference.  Obviously can't just plug and paint a hole in laminate.

In my initial CP, I screwed up drilling a button hole and had it 1/4 " too far south.  I plugged it with some scrap wood and wood glue, then let it completely dry.  After filling with "plastic wood" and sanding it smooth, you couldn't tell it was there.  I then redrilled and it is still quite solid.  (Of course, I wound up scrapping the entire CP and started over from scratch, but now I have a nice test panel to work with).
