Title: Please Help: ArcadeVGA Black Screen
Post by: K9 on February 07, 2008, 09:57:58 am
Any help or ideas would greatly be appreciated.  I've done a search and this problem has been touched on a couple of years ago but none of the suggestions have worked for me.

I am trying to install the drivers for the ArcadeVGA running Windows XP Home Edition.  Also using a Video Amp.  Prior to physically installing the ArcadeVGA card, the onboard video will send a decent signal to the arcade monitor.

I uninstalled the onboard video drivers and physically installed the ArcadeVGA card.  When I reboot, the motherboard hits post and the boot up screen for Windows is visible.  After the boot, the entire screen goes black.

I next tried hooking up a computer monitor in conjunction with the arcade monitor using a DVI to VGA adapter.  The same thing happens on the computer monitor.  I pressed F8 after post but before windows boot and chose "Enable VGA Boot"  It asked for which operating system and I chose Windows XP.  I thought this would give me a visible screen to load the ArcadeVGA drivers but it didn't, still a black screen.

Anything I'm missing?

Did you enable your Motherboard to disable the onboard video card and to turn on the agp card?

That is actually a very good suggestion, thanks.  There is nothing marked as clearly as DISABLE ONBOARD VIDEO in the BIOS.  I did try disabling some of the components that refer to the onboard video.  I also set the initial peripheral from PCI to the AGP.  Still no luck.  I might be overlooking other settings.  I'm off to work but will try again in the morning.   I know everything is booting up good because right after the windows boot screen, the screen goes black and the windows sound chimes.  Same with the sounds after I shut down.

For what it's worth, my motherboard is a Biostar K8M800 Micro AM2.

Try removing the arcadevga card, booting with the onboard so you can see what's going on, uninstall the driver for the onboard video, install the driver for the arcadevga, make sure AGP is primary, then put the AGP card in.  Also, make sure your bios is updated.

The good news is that I now have a picture again.  The bad news is that I just cannot get these drivers to install.  When the ArcadeVGA card is not installed and I try to run the drivers it never kicks into the install screen.  When I install the card and try to install the drivers, this is what I get:
