Ok....
I've been trying to play Killer Instinct on my mame cab and have had an abysmal time getting the timing on the combos to work. Just for the hell of it, I went to my local arcade and played to see if my timing was just off, only to find that my timing was perfect (beat the game in one quarter).
I thought mabye it's the frame skipping, so I turned it off completely and that didn't seem to fix the issue. I did notice a little bit of a speed difference though. It seems to run a little faster in Mame than it does in the arcade.
I thought I would request the advise of you gurus out there to see what could be the issue.
I'm using mame32, have turned off Frame skipping. I'm using an Ipac with Happs Competition joysticks.
For PC hardware I'm running an XP 2200 with Win XP and 512 of ram. I have a Radeon 9200 128 All in Wonder card and a Sound Blaster Live! card.
I know that there is a KI 1 and 2 specific emu. Does that work better? Is it more accurate?
Any info anyone can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Aceldamor

You actually use MAME for KI? I heard you have to have a really nice PC for that. Well I use the U64Emu (that specific emulator) and it works pretty well. I think it has some sort of speed optimizations for older PC's. I have some sound issues but I attribute that to a less-than-stellar PC. (This may or may not be the case.) U64Emu has an option that may come in handy, though... Frame Limiting.
I would suggest you try frame limiting. It keeps the game from going to fast. Maybe if the game is going too fast it's not properly registering your combos. (Plus who wants a Turbo KI anyways?)
You can find U64Emu (or "kiame") at:
http://kiame.emuhq.com/
And when it get it running... I'll take you DOWN! (on random select) ;)

You don't need a super nice computer to play KI in Mame anymore. 0.67 fixed a LOT of fps issues with that game.

Well I still run 0.63 since that's the rom set I have anyways. I guess I'll do an upgrade and check it out!
Is a P3 866MHz with 128MB RDRAM enough with dedicated video and audio?
I'm excited!!! ;D
It's one of my favorite games of all time!!! I'm going home in a hour and trying this out!!!

I have a 1.4 ghz Athlon w/ 256 MB ram. KI runs much better using U64Emu than it does in MAME. Even when the MAME fps indicator shows 60/60, the game is still a little choppy. Unfortunately, I don't have my control panel finished yet so I haven't tried either version with authentic controls. I hope that one or the other ends up feeling similar to the real thing.
