Title: RandyT can you make me a custom PGI?
Post by: Anubis_au on February 05, 2008, 10:17:48 pm
Hi RandyT

Are you able to make a custom PGI, the aussie 20 cent coin, similar to the quarter you have in your collection?

Cheers,
Anubis.

I run them a sheet at a time.  I have few that are waiting for the next sheet to be run, which should be pretty soon.

If you have something you want specifically, email it to me.  Vector is best, but I'm sure raster will do if high enough res.  White on a black background only, please.

Hi,

I'm a bit confused.  What exactly are you talking about?

Custom PGI's (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=71&products_id=302) to place inside the translucent buttons.

But I don't know if we are talking "Elizabeth" or Platypus :)

Since we're talking about custom stuff here... Randy - do you have any interest in making a couple of joystick dustwashers out of plexiglass (if possible)?  I think we discussed this about 6 months ago but I had a baby and got a bit sidetracked.   ;D

Anyway, I plan on painting the bottom pink to match my cab so I need them to be clear plexiglass, roughly 2-1/4" in diameter with a hole in the center for the joystick shaft (I'm using a U360 so I'm guessing 1/4"-3/8").  Actually, I can drill out the center hole if it's easier.  Oh, and the plexiglass can be the standard 1/8" thickness.  I'll even order a bunch of them from you since it probably doesn't make sense to make just one - plus they will be great to use down the line...  no big deal if you can't do it - I have the materials but I'm having trouble finding a circle cutting jig for my router so I thought I'd ask...

Javeryh,

Did you try a place like Tap Plastics (http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=140&) (the link is directly to the acrylic circles page)? Not only do they carry stock like you are looking for, but they can laser cut anything also.

Ah, that clarifies it... Thanks!

Heh.  Congrats!  Drop me an email with the quantity you'll need and I'll figure up a price.  I have Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Green, White and Clear material in stock.  The laser is running fine, so some dust washers should be no problem at this point.

Sweet!  I'm going to try making one with a drill and a hole saw but after that fails I'll drop you a PM.  I was thinking about ordering 10 of them or so - clear (I'll be painting the bottom pink to match my cab).

Neverending Project: That place is perfect - too bad shipping kind of kills it (they want like $8 to ship something that will fit in a envelope for $0.42 or whatever stamps are these days).  I'll probably use them for something down the road though - I've already bookmarked the site.  Thanks!

But of course we are talking the platypus side.

Much as we love our beloved Queen, that face is not unique to Australia (except the writing).

The platypus is where it's at!

Will this do? I'm not sure I can find a vector drawing of a coin design, and this probably the highest res pic I can find on the net. Let me know if it's good enough...

Randy,

If it's not too much of an imposition, can I ask you to make a test print? The platypus design looks good to me but I can't judge how it would look when shrunk to the size of a PGI.

I also have an alternative custom request should the platypus design not work, and that is just the normal white writing on black, but saying 20c, not 25c. That shouldn't be that big a change, I hope...

More on the subject of custom PGIs / requests, how about the universally known symbols for play, quit/exit/eject and pause, such as Pongo's "Set 3" vinyl decals? Can you add these to the collection?

They're only $1.89 each.

If you're only after a single unit, it probably is an imposition to ask for a test print for a "potential" custom order, for the grand sum of $1.89, which will only conditionally be paid in the event that you like the test print.

Of course, if you're buying in bulk, it's a different story ... you'd definitely want to see a test print before forking out for, say, 20 of them.    ;D

If you really like the idea of the platypus, just take a chance, pay the $1.89 and see how it comes out, you're not betting the house on the outcome.

I also have an alternative custom request should the platypus design not work, and that is just the normal white writing on black, but saying 20c, not 25c.

This is a safer option ... a button with the 20c logo ... go for this, you can't go wrong, and it'll look good.    :D

txtworld, you are right...

Sorry Randy, didn't know what I was saying asking for a test print of the platypus design. I'm happy to go ahead with it if you are ready to make it for me.

I've been waiting to hear back if you can make the other custom buttons (the triangle Play etc) before placing my order. Let me know and how we would organise the order (will you update your webpage or should I just order X number of units of PGI's on the webpage etc)...

OK, I have placed my order with Randy.

Apart from the 20c PGIs and the platypus PGIs, Randy, can you please make up custom PGIs for play, exit and pause as per the attached image (quick n dirty done during work lunch).

Cheers,
Anubis.

Apart from the 20c PGIs and the platypus PGIs ...

Hey Anubis,

What about a "2 * 20c" button ??    ;D

Those games didn't stay 20c for long, with the rampant inflation of the late 70's and early 80's.  You could play Space Invaders for 20c, but for the games that followed in the ensuing years, you'd have to cough up two coins per credit.

Actually, by the time we reached the mid. to late 80's, some of the arcade parlours (the more pricey ones) were asking for 3 * 20c (for 1 credit), or $1 (for 2 credits).

Despite whatever the cost of playing, I think the image of the 20c coin is cool... nicer than the $1 coin, which really could have been just as representative of arcade game playing costs...

I remember the $1 for 2 plays / 60c for 1 play days :)

And the $1 for 1 play, $2 for 3 play days...

And then the $2 for 1 play Daytona days...

Anyway, let's see what RandyT comes back with. I have faith in his professionalism.

I agree, it will look great on your panel.   :)

P.S.  Looks like we're both "hard at work" today ... I'd better make this my last post, as I've had to do the old Alt-TAB trick a few times already, as the boss approached.    ;)

My GGG order has already shipped!

RandyT, that would have to be the best turnaround time to make custom PGIs and ship I've ever seen!!

Will post pics of the PGIs when it's arrived here in Oz (some time next week I assume).
