will it never end?

Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart) is not only a scientologist, but she also paid them 10 million dollars, which was the biggest contibution they received last year.
-
Only if you're retarded enough to consider Scientology a religion.
-
I would be surprised if a woman who has added voice to a cartoon boy for 20 years WASN'T a scientologist. ;D
-

It's legally recognized as such in many countries.... including the US.
The Germans have it right this time. It's not considered a religion there.
-

This time.
if you think about the last time you might reconsider their views about it this time.
This isn’t religious, it’s investment. That 10 million is what’s keeping her employed.

??? What do German views about Scientology have to do with Nancy Cartwright's employment? Scientology is just a business. They pamper their celebrity members with the money they receive from their "ordinary" members meanwhile censoring the internet by sueing everyone that has the slightest criticism against them.

yeah, thats what brought it to my attention. i was reading about scientology somewhere (maybe about the fact that they forced the wayback machine to delete all archives of anti scientologists. which is dissappointing)

I hadn't heard that. What a bunch of idiots....
-
There is a Scientology recruitment video that is supposed to be "by invitation only" that keeps popping up on youtube. The Scientologists will force them to remove it and three more copies pop up. It is this really off the charts idiotic sales pitch by Tom Cruise about how all of the different tiers of Scientology open up to you as you donate money, and how by donating enough money you can literally get super powers, but don't tell anyone, the mortals won't understand.
-
Sure they are, but when the beliefs include price tags, the whole concept goes right out the window.
-
What 'concept'?
Many religions have barriers to entry, some of them financial. Shall we ban all them, too?
Absolutely. The more you ban the better I like it. Ban 'em all, I say.
-
L. Ron Hubbard is quoted as saying "Want to make money? Form a religion!"
...nice.
-
What happened to free will? Let people believe what they want to.
They are being allowed to believe what they want - and society is commenting on it. No one is passing laws against their practices or stoning them in the town square. If they didn't have A list celebrities on television acting like lunatics most people wouldn't have even heard of Scientology. They are bringing the ridicule on themselves.
-
It's the lunatic part that ruins their image. For instance, John Travolta has been a scientologist for a LONG time, near 30 years IIRC, and most people don't even know that. If they do, they learned very recently because of Tom Cruise. Most of them keep their mouths shut. Tom Cruise has become an image poison. I doubt anyone other than Spielberg even wants him anymore. He just can't keep his mouth shut and thinks he has the know all end all answer to everything.
...speaking of that, can anyone confirm Tommy is Tom Cruise? That would explain so much. ;D
-

I'm not a fan of scientology by any stretch but to lump him in with them is pretty low... they aren't that stupid.
;D

True...true. I realize my statement directly contradicts the whole point I was making. I'll revise:
...speaking of that, can anyone confirm Tommy is actually Tom Cruise? ;)
-

I'm not a fan of scientology by any stretch but to say tommy has had sex with Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, and Katies Holmes is pretty low... they aren't that stupid.

Good catch, but I can explain:
Nicole Kidman did do a sex scene with Anthony Hopkins, so her stupidity is up for debate. ;D Katie Holmes married him after he showed his crazy, so her too. We'll just say that language barrier was Penelope's excuse.
-

Dude, that was harsher than a billboard sized lemonparty. You, sir, are the Super Bowl Champion of t3h $u¢k.

Eh, I'm not 100% (or even 10%) sure he's had sex with any one of them.
You wanna get real crazy, take a look at childhood photos of L Ron Hubbard and compare them to 'Suri Cruise'.
The resemblance is startling.
It wouldn't surprise me if part of becoming a scientologist means impregnating your wife via artificial insemination with Hubbard's frozen sperm. Seriously.

Don't blame me! She's the one who made that movie. I've never seen it thankfully, but I damn her forever for destroying my fantasy of her. I had a thing for her every since Far and Away, but that is long gone.

I stopped watching her movies after the rain/headlights dance in To Die For. I didn't need anything more from her than that.
-
The Human Stain was an okay movie if you can conceive of Nicole Kidman as a janitor and Anthony Hopkins as a black man.
I dry heaved when I picked up the box at Blockbuster...
-
And that was prior to all the plastic surgery that has her looking like a jack-o-lantern now.
Really? I watch so few A list movies I didn't know. They should make a CG 22 year old Nicole Kidman and use that instead. She can still get paid - and we can get what we want.
Or hell, pay a little less and get something better - a CG 22 year old Bernadette Peters. I'd pay to see that.

-
I didn't realize it was Phil until the music started!
-
I like Phil and his innovative nature, but that's just a little too weird for me.
-
by donating enough money you can literally get super powers
It worked in Marvel Ultimate Alliance (coins can be exchanged for powers) and Final Fantasy (gill for materia). It's about time religion got with the program.
-
Is it just me, or do you have a hard time watching something once you find out the actor/actress is a Scientologist?
-
Just you :)
Now, I have a hard time watching anything with Tom Cruise because I think he's a loon, but not because he's a scientologist.
-

I have had a hard time watching anything with Tom Cruise for the last 10-15 years... after he hit a certain age he stopped acting and started doing what Jack Nicholson does... he just plays himself in every movie. He sucks. Hard.

Exactly. All the undercover research and former scientologists say that it is a brainwashing, money making enterprise. I mean come on...Xenu, thetans, etc, etc? It was all just made up by a science fiction writer and these people BELIEVE it. I can't help but think they are all just as batty as Tom, they just keep the crazy bottled up better.
-
OK, fair enough. Still, you have to admit that scientology (the movement as opposed to the ideology) is taking things quite a step further than other religions. They are pretty aggressive in the way they "defend themselves".
I read a documentary on Cruise, his "daughter" and their kid. That was seriously scary. Their whole live "is scientology".
Again, christianity might have been followed as aggressively 50 years ago, but these days the general public thinks people are nutty when they still do that today.
It's not the "religion" itself which makes people's behavior seen as nutty, but the extremism with wich the "religion" is followed.
-
i call it 'the authority of antiquity'. older religions have been handed down from generation to generation. its very hard to get away from what your parents teach you. as a kid they are in an absolute positiohn of trust. if they believe in a certain religion, and they tell you it is so, why should you doubt them? unfortunately, scientology is headed towards getting 'authority frojm antiquity'. people like giavanni ribisi were BORN into scientology, not converted. thats whats so wrong inventing new religions. we know better as a modern society, but people keep doing it.
i knew a guy who was born into thelema:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thelema
a religion started by aleister crowley. totally ridiculous, but he believes it whole-heartedly. why shouldnt he? his mother said it was so...
-
Some religions ask for your mind, others your body this one asks for your money. Whichever you can afford to give that's the religion that’s right for you. If you don't have a perfect mind, body or pocketbook, you can become a Democrat.
There’s something for everyone.

I was just going to compliment everyone on this thread, for having it remain in EE so long without it getting overtly political or religious, then Dartful had to open his troll mouth.

Wow, Anonymous has a lot more active members then I thought they would. Looks like they got around 4,000 protesters worldwide the other day.
