finally got this beauty finished!
she stems from a super neo 29 machine that i gutted late last year. inside i have a dell optiplex, running a 2.6ghz procey, 1gb of ram & a 200gb hdd. all control parts are from ponyboy himself (comp 8way joys & translucent happ buttons), an ultimarc j-pac and MAME tokens by byoac (with fully working original coin door). i had the side art done by mamemarquees.com... while the marquee & instructional artwork was modded & printed off my pos inkjet. in the near future, i plan on painting the speaker grills & 1p/2p icons on the control deck a gray to match the bezel.
i've built quite a few mame machines in the past, and this one by far is the cleanest, and meanest one yet.
enjoy:

Wow, it looks like an ATM!! :applaud:
Very nice and neat.

haha, it does look like an atm doesn't it :dunno
thanks :)

I'd like to compliment you on a nice build, but you've already done that!
-
Awesome job. Where do you find these things in the U.S. (in the NYC area)? I see them pop up from time to time but always at ridiculous prices (like $600-$1000 for an empty cab). I'd LOVE to get my hands on one of these things and trick it out.
-
very clean, nice work. :applaud:

Looks good...
Only thing that looks off is the joysticks are a bit too blue. Too bad they don't come in a darker color.
-
The candy cabs sure are beautiful, aren't they? Here's mine (I need to take a pic in the light):

Get some good stools and you'll love that thing to death.
-
yeah, most neo 29's aren't cheap... especially in good condition! i got lucky and found this shell on ebay out in los angeles, and picked it up the same night i found it.
the controllers are indeed blueblueblue, but if you take a look at the marquee & sideart, the same blue is in the gradient in the lower half. also, the translucent buttons will lightup a bright blue and it'll look a lot better :) but yes, i agree there needs to be a more mellower' blue color of joys out there.
most higher end/quality bar stools are too high for this cab. so i grabbed some nice folding stools that match the cabinet perfectly.
thanks for the comps fellas/ladies

I'm lovin' the candy goodness!
This makes me really want to get my namco exceleena up and going!

My wife doesn't want it upstairs!

ooh, that thing's purdy! get on it, man!
-
Man, that thing looks AWESOME. I'd friggin kill for one of these things, or even a replica...
Don't suppose anyone knows of a source for plans to make a wooden copycat?
-
neat

Good Job! Looks like you took your time and it paid off!

Seen this cab for a couple of days now, its a beauty no doubt. I love candy cabs, but what exactly did you do? Apart from replacing all the beautiful original art with stock mame stickers and putting in blue sticks and buttons onto a plain orange vinyl CP. What did you do that took your time? Not meaning to start anything here, but you can get one of these cabs from killercabs in great condition and finish it up in a day. Hardly what i'd call a project. My £0.02

true words. however, the subject did read "the cleanest MAME SUPER NEO 29", not the cleanest MAME MACHINE... and you being such a candy cab fan should know there's not much you can do PHYSICALLY to a candy cab.
all in all, i scored a FLAWLESS cabinet from a local seller, and decided to play with it. candies are nearly impossible to find in pristine condition (as you know). but yeah, there wasn't much modding done to the unit at all. unless you count the hole punching for the controls & creating the custom marquee from plexi... but that was only a day or so. i was honestly just showing off how clean the unit looked as a whole in comparison to the rest of the mame machines you see out there. cause you gotta admit... 3 out of 4 mame machines you see now a days end up being zzzzzzzzzzz.
so yeah... my attempt here was to show off a simple & CLEAN alternative to a mame machine, and i'd like to believe i nailed it :)
thanks for the props!

It truly is the clean form factor that make candy cabs so special.
I know alot of our UK members hate them, but I guess the "grass is always greener" (on the other side of the pond). I would gladly give you a "woodie" today, for some "candy" tomorrow.
-
I always get a woody playing on my candy ;)

ummmmm

it was supposed to be a joke.
Uk guys call all normal cabs, "woodies". In the UK candy cab's are everywhere - not many wood cabs (so I hear). It was supposed to be like that hamburger guy from popeye....
anyways, jacenwon - do you have any pics of it before?
-
I used to have one of those. I miss it. I really liked sitting down to play, even if it did have those el cheapo candy joysticks on it. It is the only machine I ever sold that I want back.
-
Very nice and clean.
Been thinking of doing something to my Astro but the kids won't get off it. :)
I love this little thing. So far I've just managed to spin the monitor and plug a 48-in-1 board into it.
HO, HO, HO..

Oh no....................... prepare for a bunch of "Knievel Christmas Lighting" clones :laugh2:
-
Well the real trick to the Christmas light mod is using the corrrect tape to hold them on.
That is a well-guarded company secret. ;)
