So I wired up on control panel on my cocktail cabinet and fired up the pc to see if it worked. I'm using I-Pac and a mag-stik plus.
Fire up the game, and everything is backwards, so I swap wires. Game works.
Exit to windows and try to shut down, but in the drop-down menu the menu selection is scrollling as if an arrow key is pressed down.
Did I wire the joystick to normal closed instead of normal open? Is that why it seemed to be wired backwards?
I used the terminals farthest from the ground.

Sounds to me like you've wired it to the wrong post

Alrighty then.... now I need to double check my buttons -- they may be miswired too. Bummer, but better to know now.
Thanks, dudes.

My problem was that I kept wiring the directionals backwards, as in left was right, right was left and so on. I just didn't want to accept that even though you push the stuck to the right, it's hitting the left switch. :dizzy:
But like Lew said, it sounds like you've got the wires on the NC instead of the NO.

yeah, that should have tipped me off... I made SOOOO sure I had the directions right, that if they were reversed then the switches were wired wrong.
I had ALL the switches wrong... don't know how I read them wrong. Everything is much better now. Thanks, everyone!

HEHE! I ALMOST made the same mistake, except I was looking at the CP from the bottom side, and "accidentally" wired left and right "backwards". Turns out my "mistake" was correct! I had made sure to pay attention to "top vs bottom" and didnt have to worry about those being inverted!

eesh...
I don't even look what direction I'm wiring things anymore. I just fix it in Mame.

That's all fine and dandy until you go to work on a real arcade machine in which you don't have that option. ;)
