Lets face it, nobody likes trackball mounting plates! Nor the effort in crafting a panel which does not need one, with a conventional trackball. Well soon they will be banished to history!
A few weeks away yet as this it the production prototype. These will be available with white solid, and red and neutral translucent balls. Either for connection to Opti-PAC/Mini-PAC or with a new USB 2.0 interface.
We own full tooling and production of these units so expect the price to be very competitive also.
Been so busy developing new stuff that we don't have a name for this yet. Any suggestions welcome! Any winner whose suggestion is adopted can choose $100 worth of stuff from our store.

Ulti-Trac.....
-
Good idea.
What's the size of the ball?
I'd call it High-Ball or Tall-Ball :P
-
Ulti-mount trackball :)
-
The "EZ-M Trackball" :applaud:
-
I think this is a great idea. I already have a trackball I plan to use on my project coming this spring, but if the price is right I may shelf it and use one of these.
As far as a name, Im not too good with things like that, but "Stealth Track" comes to mind...
-
Hmmmmm....
Throwing them together....
The Ulti-Trac EasyMount
-
Flush-ball? Flush-Trak? E-Z Trak?
-
(http://www.ultimarc.com/images/new_trackball.jpg)
Neat Idea Andy..... At first I thought you'd just had a new top injection molded to fit the betson, but then I realised that you'd have to make the mechanics of it fit higer in the bottom case as well.... Very good! Not sure how the encoder wheels fit unless they are somehow geared from the rollers. Do they still spin well with the additional friction??
Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)
-
Hmmmmm....
Throwing them together....
The Ulti-Trac EasyMount
Me and waveryder want thirds on that one ;D
-
name Easy Mount is not correct. He does not require mountplante only, but still requires screwing. Screwing - negation Easy Mount
easy mount is top mount. This Trackball has the same assembly how korean (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=74780.0) joysticks. Korean joysticks are not type easy mount. Easy mount:
iL -Universal Stick
Turobo Twist spiner
Bao Lian Easy Mount (http://www.bao-lian.com/product-pic.asp?p_id=10601000)
RTM trackball (Ready to Mount)
-
You could glue it....
That would be easy....
;D
-
:)
in MDF you still need mountplante:P - edges of hole
this will make easy in panels from metal and lexan or very hard wood
in MDF you still need mountplante/bezel, how near lock:P
(http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/5216/beztytuuep5.png)

Clearly it is for easy mounting into a wood CP. A couple of counter sunk bolts and your away! Not everybody has access to router, workshop, etc. Some of us are stuck with just a jigsaw and sandpaper :(. I still say "EZ-M" it looks damn issue to install in a panel to me ;)
-
Ultimarc I-Ball
-
There are some great name ideas here, but how about "Ultimarc EasyTrack"?
-
Looks great I cant wait! Its release should hopfully coincide with when I will have some funds available ;D
-
Is this thing the size of a button? If it is, then how about the Ultraroll mini. Or Ultrarolltrak.
I hope it is small though. This could bypass the hurdle of playing dual spinner games, and having easy mounting.
-
Ultrasphere. Spheretrak.
-
Ulti-Mount Flushball or just Ulti-Mount Trackball. Ooo, the Ulti-Marc TallBall.
-
UltiBall
-
I think someone mentioned it already, but I'll detail it again. What would seal the deal for me on this is if the trackball had some sort of flange for the top of the panel. For instance, you could rough cut a hole for it and not worry about being an absolute perfect circle as it requires now. Then you mount the trackball, and from the top screw down a flange type connection like what is on a push button housing. This covers any errors in the cutout, and would give the TB an ultra smooth and pretty tie in to the CP.
As to name, I prefer Ultimarc E-Z Mount Trackball. Simple, and to the point.
-
That name is way too long.
Maybe Ult-iBall ?
Anyway, wouldn't a flange like that hurt your hands ? Or at least hinder your playing ?
-
Luci-trac? Luci-flush trac? Luci-trac flush?
-

If the lip of the trackball and the flange where threaded you could even use it as part of the fastening of the trackball.
-
Ultimarc Clean-mount?
Ultimarc EZ mount
Ultimarc Supermount?
Ultimount?
Those would be my guesses.
Nice work!
It appears to me that you could probably just use a hole-saw and a few counter-sunk screws and be set. Looks cool to me!

OK here is the optional flange...
Its a 3 inch trackball by the way, rather larger than a button! The appearance when mounted is exactly the same as the Happ from the top of the panel (without the mounting plate!).

There is no gearing. The wheels just fit. It was a very careful piece of CAD followed by laser prototyping. The mechanics are fairly conventional although I searched for the best bearings which are not pre-packed with thick grease and also specified precision-ground stainless steel rollers.
I was also able to maintain the distance between the points where the rollers contact the ball.. just. This avoids the ball jumping off the rollers, something which was noticeable in an early design which pushed the rollers inwards.
Some good name suggestions here! Keep them coming. I already have a couple on here earmarked! The final decision will be made by a specially-convened committee... ok some mates down the pub...

Ultimarc Ultimate

Fitting in with the theme of the UltraStik 360, which is also known by its abbreviations as the UltraStik or U360 ...
How about ...
UltraTrak 720
... which could also be known by the following abbreviations :
UltraTrak, U720
-
How about just a simple "TrackMark". Nothing to complex about that name, but it does show that it is original to the ultimarc business.
BTW, the SpinTrak that I ordered from you arrived the other day. It's AWESOME! My cabinet is far from complete (as I decided to re-start my CP build from scratch after a few screw ups), but I spent all of last night playing Arkanoid on my laptop with the spinner. So much more fun now!
-
Ultimarc Flushtrak.

Offer a brown trackball, and call it your Chocolate Salty Ball...

Trac-Pac.....
Ball-Pac.... *Snick*
I-Track....
-
Hello Andy, I have a name AND slogan.
Ultimarc Trac Star - It shines above the rest.
-
Ul-T-Ball
With the T from Track.......duh :D
-
Isn't it nice to see GGG and Ultimarc release new innovative products, and keep silent until (about) ready to order ?
When do we get to see the Ulti-yoke Andy ? :D
-
Ultimarc Hi-ball.... just a little more "marketed" than high ball.
...and I might be an alcoholic, so I like the sound of hi-ball. Which reminds me, where's my Scotch?
Enjoy the pub Andy.
-
How about this for a name:
Ulti-Trac Plus
or
Ulti-Trac Pro
The "plus" part being the added features of a flush mount, plate-less version.
DeLuSioNaL
-
The Ulitmarc Easy-Trac
The Ulitmarc Easy-Trak
The UltraTrak
The UltraTrac
The Ulti-Trak
The Ulti-Trac
The Easymount Ulti-Trac
The Opti-Trak
The Opti-Trac
The EZmount Opti-trac
I guess I need to go back and see how many of these have already been suggested :-[
-
:applaud:
-
If these havn't already been suggested:
UltraMount-TB
UltraTrack EZ-Mount
-
UltraTB EZ-Mount
-
I'd say, ULTRABALL, to keep up with the tradition (see ULTRALUX)
-
Id say have it as three items on the site, with different names based on the ball colour:
The Pearl for the translucent one
The CueBall for the white one
And The Sapphire for the red one
I like the pearl colored ball myself, and if I was including a tracball with my CP I would go for that one.
-
Thanks for the quick answer Andy.
-
Ultimarc SimpleTrac
-
How about "Ultrack". Don't think I've seen that one yet.
-
well, there is
Spin-Trak...
so could go with: Roll-Trak
Hmm, what about...
Sly-Ball (like hi-ball, but a very 'Sly' mounting method :) )
-
Ulti-Max Trackball
Ultra-Max Trackball
-
I remember when I was a young and called these things "roller controllers". Anyways, I like "high ball". So, 3" only? Did I read that right? If not, got a 2 1/4" red translucent ball only?
-
Trac-man!
-
Here's my two pence worth - all Latin:
(Ultra)Acies : To battle
(Ultra)Altus : Tall, Deep
(Ultra)Annullo : to obliterate, destroy, annihilate
(Ultra)Torvus : Savage, fierce
(Ultra)Instruo : prepare, provide / draw up an order of battle
(Ultra)Procinctu : prepared or ready for battle
(Ultra)Imperium : power to command, authority, command, rule, control.
With or without the Ultra(?), or just 'U'.
Ratzz
-
Nice work Andy! Looking forward to trying it out!
-
Since you mentioned two translucent balls, will it be lightable?
-
Andy's 3" Balls :o
Ultimate Arc-Ball :P
-
what about UTB(ultimate track ball) by ultimarc
nice and simple ;D
-
Opti-Trac. It's an optical trackball :) You could sell Opti-pac and Opti-trac combos!
-
How about the SlikBall in memory of our favorite vendor? :laugh2:
-
How about the SlikBall in memory of our favorite vendor?
Would you get a free slikstick with a purchase of 2 slikballs, tho?
::)

This is a brilliant promotion. Look at all these people tripping over each other trying to get the $100 prize, all the while bumping your thread to the top. ;D
-
Ultratrack, Ultra-track, Ultra-Track, UltraTrack
-
Oh there's a prize? I missed that part. Here I go:
Ultimarc Trac-Pac
or just plain and simple and elegant "Trac"
-
The Ultimarc Tracker or U-Trak imo.

Perfect for a game of Marmor Insania.
Not so good for Intermundia Incursio.
Funny how so much of the Latin Language seems geared to war and battle. Most school Lat. translations seemed to be about attacking the ditches with spears and arrows with the Romans being brave, noble, fearless etc.
I will announce the winning name nearer the launch date.
Andy

It has to be
Ultra Infinite Track
Ultra Infinite Trackball
Ultrimarc Infinite Track
Ultrimarc Infinite Trackball
as you can spin it in an infinite number of directions.

Ultimarc Trackball2: Electric Boogaloo
Edit: Whoa - sorry - posted a link to a movie poster and somehow it was replaced with pr0n by the hosting server I found the image on... I sincerely apologize...!!! Fixed...

That is disgusting.
Shame on you!!!

Ultimarc Trackball2: Electric Boogaloo
Whoa - sorry - posted a link to a movie poster and somehow it was replaced with pr0n...
Hot linking can lead to problems...obviously. Most of the time, it's better to upload the file you want and display it that way. I didn't think that you wanted to post that picture.... Pretty shocking.
-
Did it show balls at least?
-
Doh! I missed all the commotion...hey guys, keep in mind, mistakes happen and this IS the INTERNET...It's no coincidence that the any joke about the internet includes finding porn everywhere...
First time is always forgiven, preventing a second time is key (and expected).
-
Ok thats probably enough names hehe...
Grabbed a picture of the white translucent ball, illuminated. Just used the LED bayonet fitting from one of our Ultralux buttons, stuck into the hole underneath the ball. So just one standard LED. Note this is the white ball not the red!
The picture is as shot, except for cropping
(http://www.ultimarc.com/images/tb_lit.jpg)
Green LED
(http://www.ultimarc.com/images/tb_lit_grn.jpg)
-
Holy crap! excuse my language but that is from 1 LED!!! Andy is this ball only suitable for wooden panel mounts as it appears? Are you going to offer a similar system for use metal Control Panel owners? If you do you gotta a guaranteed purchase of 2 trackballs right here.
-
That's just what I was thinking....what about metal control panels?
As for a name call it the BARGIN BALL and sell it Really cheap!!
-
I don't care what you call it, but I'll be buying it w/i the next 6 months for my new Cabinet.
-
What looks better with the red light, the white ball or the red ball? Or would you light the red ball with a white light?
-
The red ball looks fabulous when lit with the red LED. It also looks great when not lit.
Here is the LED by the way...
-
Looks cool :applaud:

It also looks great when not lit.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking about too. Thanks
-
How about Ulimarc's :timebomb:"FIREBALL" The hottest trackball ever ! >:D (http://>:D)
-
U-Trac
U-Pac
Hopefully someone else didnt say it before me :)

No mounting plate? Naked?
The name is so obvious:

Nicely played, mushmouth, nicely played.
-
PAC-Trak!
-
Does translucent ball imply that it will be illuminated (through USB power)?
I'd also be interested in seeing mounting instructions posted -- do you need bolt heads sticking up on top of your CP?
-
Ultimarc Super Track
I-Ball
-
Hey Andy, I just received Randy's white translucent 2.25" ball. Can you send me one of yours to make a head-to-head review ?
:D
-
Would a 3" ball fit in a centipede?
-
No. Is the Ultimarc 3" only ?
-
So what's the verdict on the name?
-
So what's the verdict on the name?
Yeah Andy, I'm ready to spend my $100! ;D
-
I need prices - and timeframes!
I've got a cab to build ---gosh-darn--- it! :)
oh yea, and my names were the best!
-
how about the classic from SNL
HAPPY FUN BALL! :D
"Warning: Happy Fun Ball Contains a liquid core, which, if exposed due to rupture, should not be touched, inhaled, or looked at. "
-
u720
Since it can do 360 turns in both the x and y directions.
So basically 360 times 2 = 720
Or u720
Would sound cool for someone to say, "I went all out and got me a pair of u360's and a u720 for my arcade CP."
U standing for Ultimarc of course. ;)
Can also be u720TB(track ball)
By the way, will it be LedWiz compatible?
-
u720
Since it can do 360 turns in both the x and y directions.

efjayel,
I've already suggested "U720".
It's nice to see you agree it has a ring to it. :)
Here's my one & only post, for naming suggestions of Ultimarc's new trackball :
Fitting in with the theme of the UltraStik 360, which is also known by its abbreviations as the UltraStik or U360 ...
How about ...
UltraTrak 720
... which could also be known by the following abbreviations :
UltraTrak, U720
-
So Andy, how far away are these from sale and what will be a ball park price?
-
u720

How about u1080?
That sounds even cooler than u720.

I think he should call it...
The Spaceball ;D

Ub40
U2
-
I'd call it the PAC Rat :D since it is also considered a mouse device and it can fit into tight places.
I'm really interested in this trackball. Im curious what the actual dimensions are. Im building a portable panel and Im hoping its a little less tall than the standard Happ trackballs.
-
Can't wait for it to come on the market. As for a name what about I-ball or I track.
-
Trac Ball Sack!
-
I know its late, but how about X-Trak (XTrak)
-
This thread seems to be going on rather longer than planned...!
Thanks for all the support and name suggestions.
I will announce the winning name when the trackball is launched and available for sale. Production is now taking place of the first batch. I would expect launch to be early April.
Pricing will be announced nearer the time.
Andy
-
Hi Andy,
What are the dimensions of the base unit please? Also, maybe a silly question but never owned a trackball before -presumably it has to be installed in a certain direction?

Who Won?????
-
So, what is the name of this thing?
It's called the New Trackball from Ultimarc - nobody wins...
I think I should win - my name has a nice ring to it: The Trac Ball Sack!
