Title: Removing Non-US Roms
Post by: Squeeky on February 01, 2008, 12:09:40 pm
Nothing against those not in the US, but I would like to remove all other countries roms from my collection.  I'm curious if there is an easy way to do this.  I've tried MCM, clrpro, romlister, but none will divide out by countries.  Any help would be great!

What front-end are you using? I believe GameEx has a feature to filter out non-us games.

I'm curious as to how GameEX has such information on each ROM.  This is something I've always wanted to do/add in romlister too (well, at least be able to filter non English titles anyway) but there is nothing in MAME's -listxml that has regional or language information in it, other than removing anything that has the keyword Japan in it, or perhaps a certain manufacturer.

If there's another controls.dat or catver.ini or similar datafile which has information like that, I will *gladly* change my code around and add support to pull in that info too.

I'm curious.  Can you filter/make your own lists on the run-of-the-mill MAME32 setup?

I believe that is how GameEx filters out games by using keywords in titles.

You would probably get more information about how GameEx works by talking with Tom over at the GameEx forums here www.gameex.info or you can talk to headkaze on these forums. I believe he will be able to answer an GameEx related questions concerning programming.

I believe in the options tab you can filter out prototypes and certain country games. Its been a long time since I used Mame32. Perhaps someone else on the forums will have a more informative answer.
