Title: Like the E-Stick, but with ball shaped top?
Post by: ilGaspa on January 31, 2008, 06:45:42 am
Hello everyone :)
I've almost finished converting my old cabinet to a MAMECab, and I now need to replace my worn out joysticks... the problem is that I can't find what I'm looking for! :'(

My cab's sticks are mounted like the Ultimarc's E-Stick, and I like that kind of mounting as there's no "floating plastic disc" like with other sticks (the MagStick for example). Now, I can replace them with a pair of E-Sticks, but I'd prefer a balltop design, and the E-Sticks are bat shaped... so, does anyone knows a joystick model that mounts like the E-Stick but that is balltop? (and that I can easily order from europe?) alternatively, anyone can tell me if there are downsides in the bat shaping of the stick? thanks :)

PS and if you're wondering why I've "almost" finished the convesion... well: my pc's PSU overheats when placed inside the cab O_o it has nearly 2 m^3 of air inside, but it still overheats -_-

Thanks! :) The redball ministick seems to be an exact copy of the sticks I have now: just one more question ;) Arcadeshop.de says it's a 4way joystick: this should mean that it's impossible to make diagonals, yet the two sticks I have allows me to O_o I'm asking because I need 8 way sticks -_-

Try the Euro-stick from Ultimarc. They are not the same fitment as the ones you have now, but if you widen the hole to accept them, they fit flush with the surface and have a very neat finish (no floating disc!).

Thanks :) I was wondering, maybe it's a stupid question, but: would be possible mounting a screw in type stick (like the Magstick) without "creting a recess" in the panel for it's square shaped base? I mean, removing my easy-mounting sticks and replace them with a pair of magsticks, inserted and screwed from under the control panel? In this order:

handle
floating disc
Panel hole with the stick going trough
Square shaped base

Instead of:
handle
floating disc
panel overlay
recess with square shaped base
panel hole with switches foing trough

It depends on the thickness of your panel. With a thick panel you would have to rout out the bottom to get a decent stick height above the panel.....

If you panel is thin enough to get a playable height then you would have to think about how much abuse you are going to give the stick, because of the length of screw used.....

You can just screw it into the bottom of your panel but as stated if you are a heavy handed player you stand the chance of ripping the screws out, that's why they are normally bolted all the way through.
