very nice! and welcome to BYOAC!
-
Thanks, nice to be a member of a great forum :)
-
just looking at your web page. im impressed by a few things. one is that you must be one of the few people who have used an x arcade 'to be replaced later' and then actually replaced it! also, despite the grimace of the fellow in your artwork the colours are quite inviting and the whole thing blends in nicely with its surroundings (",)
-
Very cool! Smooth job!
Dunno about mixing Lion-o sideart with a defender marquee though ???

Thank you. I am waiting for 2 sanwa ball-top joysticks and 6 orange and 6 red buttons, that should make it more complete i think. Really looking forward to recieving the parts.

You're right. The marquee is one of the next things on my list to replace. Im looking for something to complement my side-art. The marquee was just something i had before i started the project, so know anyone who man make a new marquee? :D
-
I got mine printed up at Kinko's, and Mamemarquee also makes marquees.
-
If its going to be a thundercat based marquee..........that would absolutely rock! That could possibly be my ultimate childhood throwback. Gotta watch my thundercats DVD's now. Hooooooo!

I will definately make a custom marquee, probably with Thundercats drawings on it :)

Thundercats Hoooooo! Thundercats wasn't on danish TV, but my older brother brought Thundercats home from London on VHS, absolute loved that series, and actually still do.

Really nice and clean -- I have to say, I don't mind the artwork at all.
Nice one  :applaud:
-
Thanks
-
Interesting idea, to have a huge nose and gritted teeth for sideart...
:dunno
However, the rest looks great. One last suggestion, it appears that the marquee is unevenly lit - I would recommend something like this:

Awesome
You're a giant, you're a monster, you you you..
..build a mean cab..
;D :applaud:
-
I have made all new controls with custom artwork. Hope you like it!
-
Nice job, very retro design/artwork.
-
Your sideart is awesome, well done! :applaud:
-
Nice job, very retro design/artwork.
Thanks, did my best to make it retro, while maintaining my own look.
-
The best thing about your plans is: they are METRIC! It's so hard to find a good plan in centimeters instead of having to recalculate everything in inches :D. I love the artwork, very retro yet very modern. New mamey candidate?
-
Thanks. I will post new pictures in about three days with all new artwork. New Bezel, new kickplate, new marquee and more.
Cheers
-
I like how you've taken advantage of the LCD to make the cabinet smaller.
How much does the whole thing weigh, I wonder?
How wide is it?
-
About 24,4 inches wide and about 132 pounds.
-
:applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
Beautiful!
I love the lines of the cabinet and the colours are fabulous.
-
That's great work! :applaud:
When you get to the Marquee on your next build, just go to your local Home Depot type store and get an 18" flourescent fixture. They are only $12.00, a piece of cake to install and are much safer.............
-
Yes, I agree, really need a wider ligth source. Next thing on the list :)
-
Now I have finished all my artwork. Hope you like it.
Cheers.
-
looks absolutely stunning compared to the pics with that 'wrong' marquee still on.
love the colour scheme also
gj!
-
*sniff* I suck at creating/printing/applying artwork... its ruins my projects :(
Well done, I'm jealous. :hissy:

The more I look at this cabinet the more I admire it. I want one! Lokesen, I've got to thank you for sharing this and posting so much info about it on your website. I'm sure we'll start seeing more cabs built from your pattern.
However. . . I could do a little nit-picking, just because I reckon nothing's perfect.
What's with those holes in the bottom-front? I'm afraid I'd accidentally put my foot in there. It's called a kick panel for a reason.
Looking at the control panel, I see two buttons up front labeled "volume" and two labeled "stop" and "skip". That's a peculiar place for them. I can't help thinking I'd bump them while reaching over to the game controls. Why aren't those buttons at the back of the CP? (I would have squeezed a spinner in there somewhere too, but that's just my quirk.)
In your work photos it almost looks like the monitor is mounted with the pedestal still attached. It might have been possible to center it better (a bit lower) or even squeeze in a slightly larger LCD panel (20-inch?) by losing the pedestal, do you think?
I also think the marquee looks a bit skinny. If it'd been about 1-1/2" (or say 40mm) taller it would have looked more proportional, at least to my eyes.
The rest of the art is superb. I'm no good at that sort of stuff, but I really admire when I see the work some people put into their cabinet art.

You are pretty much right about everything :)
The holes are covered by steel mesh, so no putting your foot throgh there Beckham. I also need to have fairly large holes, as the subwoofer in the bottom needs it to sound awesome ;). This thing is my only sound system.
You are right about the monitor, there is plenty room for it to be bigger and be lower placed. All I need to make that happen, is to make another bezel of plexiglass, my design is build so the monitor placement is fully adjustable, but the bezel isn't. So just need to buy another piece of plexi/lexan :) There is no pedistal on the monitor by the way, so no real reason for it to be placed like it is.
I started the project with a X-arcade 2-player, and got used to the layout. That's why I have tweaked the X-arcade layout instead of making a more logical approach. But you don't hit the 4 "music" buttons by accident, they are placed better than on the x-arcade, so no worries.
I think the marquee should be a little bit taller too, but that's just too late im afraid :D But I agree. This is my first arcade cabinet, and I have learned alot from building it.
Cheers,

Added a video of the process:

Nice design - I might copy that at a later time.
Virkelig flot og fantastisk med en dansk side og arbejdstegninger til fri afbenyttelse. Godt gået :)
Oh and where did you get the artwork printed?

Better reply in english, or else we will get in trouble :D
I got the self-adhensive vinyl printet at www.print2rama.dk - It's was really cheap actually. 2x 150x50cm for 188 kr + tax. Real bargain. I got the marquee and controlpanel art at a local print-shop. Just remember to get it printet on highquality glossy/photo paper.
I can really recommend the vinyl. Real nice and cleaning friendly, because it is for outdoor use.
-
AWESOME
I love the Thundercats.
Is the LCD your using a 19 inch widescreen or regular (square) monitor?
Great artwork
-
Thanks. It is a 19" LCD monitor, thats why it has a low depth and the reason I use LCD for the project. I thought of using a TV or CRT monitor, but it would be too large for my appartment.
I have made some new work drawing in 3D. Hope you like them and maybe even use them :)

Fantastic job...the art and control panel really all came together.
Really well done!
-
what did you use to mount the joysticks on your metal cp?
great looking cab by the way. love the color scheme.
-
I didn't even realize that was lion-o at first, very nice though. I really like the sideart

Bolts are welded on the backsite of the controlpanel (my father is a smith)

Great work lokesen. Love the cabinet, especially the control panel.
A question... the volume buttons you have, do they control the main windows volume or are they specific to GameEX? How do they work?
-
I agree with all the comments on this project..
Great work!!

::)
They control the volume in windows. I have installed a lille plugin called "Volume Tray" to make it work. Work well too ;)

New video of custom made front-end skin:
http://www.koenigs.dk/mame/eng/video.htm
It is a custom made Maximus Arcade skin. Soon you can download it from the maximus arcade homepage.
-
thats pretty slick. one suggestion however would be taking a good pic of your machine, cleaning it up in photoshop, and then using that in the front end instead of the generic cab being used. (disclaimer: having never used your frontend or made a layout for any frontend i have no idea if my idea would be incredibly easy or incredibly difficult. in the event that it is incredibly difficult feel free to roll your eyes, scoff, and go back to playing your amazing cab.)

Already done that, just forgot to update it on the video section, try again and see the new front-end :D
Sorry :D
-
heh...looks like you're one step ahead of me. now it's perfect.
-
What font are you using. Looks nice.
-
Genotype for the logo and the standard Maximus Arcade font for the games.
-
Been quite a while since the last post.
Alot of people have made a Project MAME from my drawings, you can see them here:
http://www.koenigs.dk/mame/eng/otherprojectmames.htm
Hope it inspires you ;)
-
I am in the process of building a cab from these plans, has anyone else on here used them and if so do you have any pics? I've looked at the examples in the link on Lokesen's website but would be interested to see other examples.
This cab is perfect dimensions for me as my place is pretty small. Its a bonus that I absolutely love the shape too...

I have made a weecade clone. The plans are very good in both projects (mame project and weecade)
You can watch my project at the link below.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=87518.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=87518.0)
My next cab will be like the mame project.I like koenings projects cause they use tft monitors and not arcade monitor.
-
I really like Koenigs cabs too... I think they're really slick. I love your weecade by the way, nice job :applaud:

One question about plans:
On the plans is a part which is called buttom, is that bottom?
If yes, dimension of that part is 600x565, while side of the cabinet
is 500mm. How bottom part is longer for 65 mm than side of the
cabinet?
Maybe a little info on how to mount bottom?
Thanks
-
the dimensions of the Bottom part are 450 x 357
-
the dimensions of the Bottom part are 450 x 357
?
Are you sure?
My question is about plans for "Project Mame", picture is on the beginning of thread.
-
oups i am sorry i was talking about the weecade project which i have made a clone bartop
i dont know about the mame project. Contact koenings.

It seems you have found an error in the drawings. The Project MAME plans are far from perfect, the Weecade plans are much better.
It sould be closer to 465 than 565. The right messure is somewhere around 476mm to make room for the two 12 or 16mm MDF on both sides (kickplate and backpanel).
Sorry for the inconvienience.
Best regards.

Ok, thanks.
Three more questions :)
Do you have on the bottom any supports, or everything standing on the side panels?
How high is bottom part from floor?
Is kickplate and backpanel standing on the floor or on the bottom?
-

1. I don't have any bottom supports, just wheels on the bottom. But I would recommend any enhancement you can make to make it more rugged and increase the stability.
2. That depends on how much you want to hide the wheels or if you have any wheels ;)
3. They are standing a little bit over the floor, because of the wheels. I looks nicer if you cant see the buttom panel.
Good luck
-
Hi, me again :)
Which are measures of wooden control panel, can't find in the plans. I guess 60 X ?
In "download editable Artwork as ZIP" are also pdf files, how these files can be edit? Do you maybe have psd or ai files?
Thanks
-
;D Great job. Love the thundercats theme. You should add a lit thundercats symbol somewhere....
