Hey all,
Has anybody seen any screaming deals on new 21" CRT computer monitors lately? It seems like all the cheap (sub $120) ones are all unavailable these days.
Thanks!

I was trying to unload some really nice NEC and Dell monitors in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum. 21"/22"

New? No such thing, I think. Good used ones. Check Craig's List and Freecycle. I've gotten one from each, both free.

Agree with Ummon. I bought a Compaq 21" one for $20 off Craigslist and the guy lived like three miles from me. Just keep an eye out; you'll get a deal sooner rather than later.

I bought one locally from a PC supply store (I got the motherboard and some memory from them too) for my cab. It only cost 20 bucks, but unfortunately, it has a rectangular logo burn-in on the screen (which didn't show up until I was running windows). It doesn't really appaer on games with a black background, but blue ones (like Jungle King), it is slightly visible. The other bad part was, it wouldn't fit in my cab without serious modification to the cab (which I didn't want to do, it's an old Robotron cab)..I ended up having to install it upside down, so my Windows and front end are upside down (I have it set to rotate 180 for Mame though, so the games are oriented correctly). Wouldn't fit with the plastic bezel in either, so I removed it and have the monitor up against the glass.

Well, I really want a bunch of them excactly the same. Like maybe 6 or so, so that when I cut my mounting piece of MDF I can make all 6 off of a template. Trying to get the hole designed and cut for a monitor is the most time consuming part of building a cab. Having one mame cab is good, but having 6 is fantastic. Every time I build one, everybody else wants one too, you know.
Thanks!

I think you can rotate Windows.

Ohh. Like Neilyboy mentioned, check for local PC surplus stores. The one he mentioned might be unusual regarding such low price, but in bulk it might work out for you.

Crankshaft, saw you are from Springfield, MO.
Not sure if you have any reason to be in Des Moines, IA at any point. I went to the state of iowa surplus store and they had shelves full of 21" monitors. Somewhere between $25 and $50.
May even check if there is a state surplus near Springfield.

you could also rotate the X (or is it Y?) axis physically by swapping the wires on the yoke. i did that recently on a B & W tv for a project im working on
