Title: WTB - A pacman control panel drilled for a 2 player 6 button style layout
Post by: 2PacMan on January 29, 2008, 08:28:05 am
I'm looking for a control panel that will fit a pacman machine that is drilled for a 2 player 6 button (street fighter style) layout.  Either one from a conversion, or if someone could drill up an old one like that for me.  Doesn't have to include any kind of graphics or sticks/buttons.  Thanks.

THat's an idea.  The pacman cp's have wood undernieth, not sure if it would fit the cab without the wood.  Can the holes be drilled without a press or anything?  I have nothing but a drill.  I can buy the bit, but how would you clamp the cp down...or can you just hold it?

Never hold a piece with your hands while drilling. I know even I break that rule at times, but it's extremely dangerous. The drill bit can grab the piece, whip the piece around, and since it's metal, you risk damaging more than the piece you're drilling.

You should clamp it down. Sometimes I'll use a bit of soft cloth or pieces of wood so the clamp does mar whatever it is I'm drilling.

not sure if the thickness would be right but I could make one from mdf and laminate it with formica and you add your own artwork to it.

Don't know how your woodworking skills fair, but I took 2 pieces of MDF, glued & screwed (countersunk) them together to form an "L".  Then a router and roundover bit to get the smooth transition.  Next a few more router bits to give you the top and bottom resting lips (look at one of your other control panels for this info and measure it out).  Last is drilling your holes out, filling in your wood mistakes and painting.  I build a complete wooden CP in a weekend, and it taught me a lot about tools and such.  Images  here  (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=51525.0;attach=82229;image), here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=51525.0;attach=86611;image), and full thread here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=59170.0)  if you're into that idea.

Wow, that looks really great.  I have none of the tools needed to make that happen.  Would you be interested in building one for me?  If so, let me know what it would cost.  Thanks!

I have original Ms.Pac CP (needs CPO). If you want to drill holes on it yourself and if interested, you can have it for $15 +s/h in US.

That's a good price, thanks for the offer.  I just don't have the tools/skills to drill the holes myself.  If you could drill the 2 player 6 button layout on that control panel, i'd buy it in a second.

His Ms Pac-man panel won't quite work for you, unless he fills the holes first, since Ms. Pac has the Joystick right in the middle of the panel.

Best,

Very true, i assumed he'd fill that hole, as well as the 1p and 2p holes and start from scratch.  Also, i think some minor adjusting needs to be done to get a mr pac panel to fit on a pacman cab.

PCB - your panels look neat, but i want something that's going to fit exactly like the original panel.  I don't like how your panel sticks out, but i guess its to give people more room.

Not really, you just need a 3/4" block below the panel under the CP strikes.  Other than that, they fit well.

We could probably do one shorter, much like the orignal, but you don't have much room for 2 joysticks and 14 buttons.

PCB---well, that might work.  What is your price for doing a control panel like that?

I'd say about $50 before controls.  We have metal blanks much cheaper  ~$30 or so.
