Post by: genesim on January 28, 2008, 02:08:26 pm
It took a little bit of time, but I am very happy with the results!

Please don't post to this thread anymore.   I am not looking for your approval and I don't care to discuss any of this with you further.

That goes for Cheffo Jeffo as well.

Anyone else, sorry about the sidetrack.    I just hate wasting my time on some people that put someone down because of hard work in the past, and only applaud an effort that they approve.   Jerks like that, aren't good for the community.

Not to start a flame war in your thread, but Leapinlew wasn't rude or being a jerk and gave you praise on a job well done. Which I second, but a pre-emptive jerk reply doesn't help the community either.

Neat Project. Do you plan on posting detailed build notes?

As to the Leapnlew thing, you are really going to have to learn how to let things go Genesim. I've learned just to ignore people who are trying to bait you - which I don't believe he was doing anyways.

/me is torn between posting just to prove that he can't be bullied and posting an honest sentiment

Honesty wins -- that is a way cool mod, just like I said it would be when I referred you to a prior thread on the topic

Ah well .... lose one, win one ... today is a victory.  ;)

I don't even know what this is about, but those two guys have always been decent in my book, which leads me to think that YOU are the problem.

Your flight stick sucks.

sharidan, like you said its best to move on no need to dwell on unimporatant things.

Of course I will post more pics.   I just didn't know if there would be any interest.

First I drilled 4 holes in the bottom after measuring it from the top and dissambling the rubber grommet.

Sorry if there isn't a ton of documentation, but I was winging it as I went.

I matched the bit to the screws in the original housing to keep it consistent.

Despite how the picture looks, I screwed in from the bottom and used the nuts left over from the grommet.   The original screws I just inserted into the copper pipes to keep the original housing together.

I discarded all springs and actuator's cause they are unneeded anymore because of the heavy duty rubber gromment that acts the same way.

I then spaced it with left over plastic from my last project to keep the joystick from tightening up too deep.
Lastly, when I put on the green detector, I had to bend the metal to keep it in the center.

One more.   Though none of these are great, it does get the job done!

Off-topic posts removed. This is a cool hack I'd like to see fully discussed and not derailed.

New rule being posted momentarily.

Can we post off topic in the other 9 threads he started about this joystick though?

Admin,

I am sorry, but I started the other thread because of like behavior over here.  If you don't mind, can you please delete this one and that way there will only be the "New" topic.   I am still looking for more suggestions and I won't start any more threads.   Thank you.

It's too bad you couldn't just buy the U360 control board and magnet. This could be adapted easily to the base of most other joy's. I wonder what Ultimarc would ask for something like that? My panel has Happs Supers (top mounted) so swapping to the U360 has little interest for me. If I could mod the shaft to accept the magnet and mount standoffs for the circuit board I might be interested. Has it been done already?

Personally, I would like to try the U360 and I haven't had a chance to yet since I still have some ipacs. As soon as I run out of those, a U360 starts to look like a bargain. I'm a Happs super guy myself.

I assume Ultimarc isn't interested in selling off parts and letting people hack at them. But... who knows.  :dunno

Hack is too strong a word. I prefer mod (unless the quality stinks and you call the owner a hack   :P ). It could open up opportunities for other bases. Currently there is a thread for an owner of an Ultimarc T-Stick. He is wondering if the same thing can be done to upgrade his situation. This 8 way is living proof of such a need.

  That link for the T-Stick.

Get off my lawn !

For we old-timers who originated the term, 'hack' is a badge of honour. A 'mod' is something done to a civic or console.

From where I stand, this is a hack and a bloody great one at that.

hack... mod...

it's all the same to me. I say hack when I'm trying to impress the ladies.

Time for action then. I'll buy a U360 (for the circuit board and magnet only) in the hopes of converting my Super (or my JLF). I'll let genesim have his thread back. Thanks for the inspiration.
