I have been reading up as much as I can but I am just wondering how this is going to play out for me. I am not in a position to test this yet so I thought I would post it up here to see if anyone knows.
Basically I want to be going from my computer via S-Video to scart. I have read that if you are just using a normal S-Video to scart you could end up with a black and white picture. Will this be this case and will I need to pay for a proper convertor?
Any input greatly appreciated.

Why not go RGB instead ? Better picture and no such problems.
-
When you say RGB do you mean component?
I have read it was best to go via scart for the picture quality etc. Theres mention of it on the wiki and other places .
The SCART connector is a standard connector used in Europe. SCART can accept true RGB signals as well as composite and S-Video signals. A graphics card which outputs a 15Khz horizontal scan rate can connect directly from the VGA connector on the card to the RGB pins on the SCART socket. This will effectively turn the TV into an arcade monitor by-passing the PAL or NTSC decoder which causes the signal degradation found using s-Video and composite methods.

Yes, RGB through SCART :D
Not S-Video through SCART.
Scart is often misunderstood.
SCART is a carrier of many different video signal.
1) Composite video (the worst, only use if really neccesary)
2) S-Video. Better. Color and sync seperated.
3) RGB. Best of the best. This is the signal that directly controls the three color guns (R,G,B) and the sync on a separate line. Doesn't get better than this, not even component is better.

Right ok thanks for the detailed explanation but please bear with me if I am being a little dense. The connection on the GFX card is an S-Video so which route are you proposing I take? S-Video > Composite >?
Thanks again.

You should take VGA out (RGB) -> SCART.

So your saying forget my TV out S-Video and get something like this?:

i dont understand this stuff. but i think this thread may be of use galaxian restore (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=62784.msg672886#msg672886). it should take you to the appropriate post

I'm not sure about that converter box. You'd probably be better off making your own cable using something like this as a guide:

(or the pinouts from the thread polaris linked)

that £30 box will be shite.
proper scan converters cost £1000's

The normal connection on your graphics card should be the VGA connection. You can use the RGB signal and sync on this connection, but you have to make a connection to the SCART yourself AND you need to run software that lowers the output frequency to 15 kHz.
