Hello, I'M a newb and I have a Wells Garner U5000 chassis ( it has P738 stamped on the board). The monitor didn't have a picture and had a clicking noise. I put in a cap kit and noticed that R728 is burnt open. Can anyone point me in the right direction and give me the value of the resistor in question. Hope this was enough info. If we get this fixed I have three other monitors in need of help. Thanks for any help.

R728 is a 1K 2w flameproof resistor . the driver xistor ( 2sc2482 ) may be faulty as well as the
horiz out xistor (likely shorted ) - good place to start ;)

Make sure all three of the "service update kits" are installed.
Service kit, U5000 horizontal output update
Service kit, U2000/U5000 vertical Sweep update
Service kit, U2000/U5000 power supply update

You will also want to check R760 and R765 in addition to Q708 as these more than likely have also increased in resistance. ZD702 and ZD705 are also listed as possible causes but I have never seen these fail. Make sure you replaced C713 and C117 in your cap kit install. Fairly common problem with this monitor.
