Title: USB game controller conflicts
Post by: MarkF on January 26, 2008, 01:58:14 am
I have 2 u360's setup as USB game devices.  I have their ID's set as 1 and 2.  In mame, they are mapped correctly as J1 and J2 and their respective button #'s.

My problem is whenever I plug another USB game controller device, a Logitech steering wheel or Stella adapter, the new device bumps my U360's up 1 ID I guess.  It makes them J2 and J3 in mame and they dont work properly.  The new device becomes J1.

I would like to keep the U360's as 1 and 2 and any new device to take on 3.  Is this possible? I dont really want the steering wheel plugged in all the time, just when I want to use it.

I can see in the game controller control panel that the new device bumps in before the 2 existing u360's.

After further research, I think I just need to keep the other controllers always plugged in.

YUP!! I'm afraid that's the only way. This is in fact a Windoze XP problem..... XP assigns device numbers dynamically, which is a total pain in the rear as there is nothing that can be done to force the device numbers to remain static.
