Title: Mono sound in mame
Post by: Grauwulf on January 25, 2008, 07:05:30 pm
I have searched, but I can't seem to find the answer to my question. I have a mame cab that only has one speaker in it, so I would like to force Mame to mono sound. There are a few games that I like to play that do not have an option for mono sound, they are stereo only. I am running Mame 1.06, is there any way to force it to mono sound?

Thanks!

Not sure about doing it in MAME, but have you checked doing it in the OS?

Running windows 2k, looked but can't find any way to do it. Looked in XP as well, no go.

Depending on what kind of output you have for the computer in the cab, radioshack sells cheap (ie 2 dollars) stereo phono to mono phono adapters... Or you could just cut up the wire going out of the compy and wire the grounds together and the signal wires together to make it one set of wires. As a teen I did that once to get mono out of a stereo headset wire coming off of a portable cd player...

EDIT:
Here is an example of the adapter I was talking about:

XP, I don't have 2000 installed on my MAC to check

Control->Sound and Audio Devices
Under Volume Tab -> Speaker Settings -> Advanced
Under Speakers Tab -> Select one of the MONO settings from the drop down list under Speaker Setup
