Title: Request for some help (Photoshop ?)
Post by: Level42 on January 23, 2008, 06:27:34 pm
Hey guys,

I'm an absolute no-no on the topic of working with pictures (well anything above iPhoto) so I would like to make a small request to someone here who is really handy with Photoshop, or any other program that can do this job.

For both my Star Wars Cockpit and Centipede, I would like some new coin-reject button inserts. I scanned one of them from my Centipede cab. The "special" thing about it is that it's for our former currency, the Guilder.

I want to keep both cabs as original as possible and keep using Guilders as my "tokens".

Here's a sample of the scan:

I scanned it at 1200 dpi.

I guess I forget to ask the question really :D

Could someone fix this up a bit ? Black=black,  a bit sharper lines on the letters etc ?

Polaris, NOS Dutch version ? That would be great !

Thanks Polaris, but I've got exactly that same sheet of stickers with my Centipede (was in the original bag in the game with the manual :D).

These stickers are meant to go on the coin door. I might put that Atari only logo one on......not sure yet....

The scanned file I guess ? Or the real thing ;)

Thanks anyway :D

I was thinking that the black actualy shouldn't be too black for the backlighting, but not sure. Will have a look this afternoon.

Well you could send the original too and I'd scan it myself  ;D

Once it's cleaned up it will be easy to change the background color. Actually I think you could do that even from your (the) printer. usually you can just increase the brightness in the printer driver and experiment until it looks the way you like.

I am a total n00b in illustrator but I could make it pretty decent in photoshop. So worst comes to worst hit me up L42 and ill whip it out for ya.

I cleaned it up by re-creating a vector version for you along with a clean JPG.
I hope this is what you're looking for.

Hey Ritalin,

Thank you !!!!  :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

I love this forum, I really really do :)

Excellent work !

Incidently I visited my SW yesterday and noticed it actualy didn't have the inserts with the Atari logo (Unlike my Centipede), so these will be going to look very sweet on it :) !!

Enjoy, Level42!

You can use the vector EPS version to scale up/down at any side without losing print quality.
Cheers!

Wanted to show that the work has not been in vain Ritalin:

Left the old original, right a brand new button and printed insert.
Look how good the Fuji looks (now really separated bars !) and the letters on the bottom right are much improved too.

I think I printed the JPG. Did it on a simple HP 930C. Not sure yet how it looks when lit.

I'll try to print the vector file too to see how that looks. Anyway, great that I can now reproduce these and add them to my SW cockpit and Centipede !

Thanks again !

Mmmm, just printed the eps file from Adobe Illustrator, scaling it to about 12% and to my surprise it looks worse than the JPG that I scaled down with the built-in printing routines of my Mac......

The Fuji gets "melted" together again...

Weird...

When you scale the drawing in Illustrator you need to check a box for "scale strokes and effects" (or something like that). Otherwise the outlines keep the same pointsize and thus they become oversized compared to rest after scaling down.

I'll check that out later, thanks Patrick. For now, the Jpg's look just great:

As always very hard to take a good pic in the dark, but here it is. It looks very good indeed in real life. Amazing, since I used plain simple printing paper, nothing special :D
